Subject: Daz Genesis and DSON

I have trouble installing DSON for loading Genesis content to Poser. The thing just refuses to load, I can find some limited info that relates to the Daz install manager but as I no longer have DS I can't see why that would be relevant. Can anyone tell me how to install DSON, presumably it installs in Poser itself. Or how to use Genesis content in Poser 11.3

I believe you will need to reinstall DS.

Technically, you don't need DS installed. You need a folder similar to the DS content folder with all the correct folders linked to the Poser Library. Although you will not see the DS content, the DS runtime will be visible in Poser. Make sure you load both the Poser files and DSON files into their corresponding content library.

I am grateful for the help offered here, but not quite smart enough to understand it. Following the link from donned gets me to page not found, and surely the object of DSON is to allow Poser users to import Genesis content into Poser, thereby increasing the sales potential of Daz creators. I don't actually follow what is being suggested in the reply from hborre. Do you mean I should replicate the DS content folder inside the Poser library... and if I can't see the DS content what's the point? Lastly I can't seem to install the DSON thing anywhere, so what should I do to use the Genesis content I Have inside Poser...

The point of the link is to make sure DSON has a reference to both DS and Poser content. Otherwise, when you try to load Genesis into Poser, DSON will not find all the components to properly convert the figure. DSON should go into Runtime>Python>poserScripts>ScriptsMenu>DSON Support of your main Poser set up.

Thank you for the effort you are making to explain his to me. Thing is I have the DSON importer for Poser and I can't open it, which I as far as I can get. I am assuming that once opened I will have to do some work to get the thing working, but until I open it I have no idea what to do...

What type of format is the DSON Importer?

Not sure, maybe this screen shot will help identify...Screenshot 2020-04-17 at 21.01.40.png

This looks like an executable file. You would need to run this program to install DSON for Poser.

deeahr2169 ( ) posted Fri, 17 April 2020 at 4:26 PM

I understood that, what I cannot do is open it to run or install it, I have downloaded it again from DS to make sure its the most up to date version and what I get is this message...Screenshot 2020-04-17 at 22.25.02.png

I did some digging and I suggest you download Daz's Daz Install Manager, set that up and install DSON through that program. I have forgotten that is the only way to actually get it into Poser.

My thanks to hborre for the suggestions. I downloaded the install manager and installed DSON though I have yet to manage to make sense of how to use it. I think there may be a problem with the install because I get this error message... Screenshot 2020-04-19 at 22.34.23.png and while some of my Daz content appears, all V4 content I think, I have yet to manage to get genesis. I have to admit that I am floundering with the complexity of folders and where to direct DIM to load content.

hborre ( ) posted Sun, 19 April 2020 at 6:00 PM

DIM will create a new folder called My DAZ 3D Library for installing new DAZStudio specific content. In order to install Poser content, PCF centric files, you need to access DIM settings and designate the location of your Poser content runtime. This is usually the Poser 11 content folder but you can create as many pathways as you have runtimes. I several runtime folders to deposit Poser content into (i.e., Victoria 4, Michael 4, Scenes, Props, etc) and each one has a separate entry in DIM. Whenever I install a freebie or a purchased item from DAZ3D, I select which library it goes into according to its category and application (Poser or DAZStudio).

The Genesis Starter Essentials, as well as all the other Genesis models, is bundled with the DAZStudio application. However, you can download the individual models for free from the website. You will need both the DAZ CF and Poser PCF because they will reference each library for DSON to work properly.

The error message you're getting is referencing C++ and the only place where that can be corrected, I can think of, is reinstalling DAZStudio. For sure, that corrects the C++ problem because it installs the current workable version.
