Subject: Is the assistant supposed to be used with dynamic simulation?

bwldrd ( ) posted Sun, 17 May 2020 at 1:18 PM · edited Wed, 20 November 2024 at 7:50 AM

I ask because no matter what I do, when i try using the assistant to set up any hair for dynamic simulation, the hair always explodes as it start to simulate. Simulation works fine if I set up hair manually.

Hello,

Sometimes, the hair can explode if there are some penetrations with the character at the beginning of the simulation. When you use the assistant, you can uncheck the direct start of the simulation at the bottom of the tab. This will import the hair and will apply the settings but The program will stop when the Simulation tab is opened. You can uncheck the inertia during the first steps and apply it again after that.

Please, tell me if this resolves your issue.

Turning off inertia didn't help. Here is what is happening.

It looks almost like the model is being mirrored and the verts moved.

This is happening with every hair I try to use the assistant with.

This is with the poser version, and the latest stable release of poser (11.3.816)

Hello,

you are right, it is an issue I found on Poser and I no longer remembered it.

The problem is that the Clothroom modifies the structure of the mesh. VWD uses the cache file format used by the Clothroom. When I prepare a cloth or a hair, I import the dynamic actor two times to make it compatible with the Clothroom.

When the mesh is retransfered to Poser the animation works correctly.

The hair assistant uses the "Animated by Host" method to animate the hair and the "Animated by Host" vertices are not the same in VWD and in Poser. It is for this reason the mesh is fully deformed in the VWD interface.

I will have to correct this issue in the next version.

If you want, I can give you a solution to resolve manually this issue until better. Tell me if you are interested.

Sorry for this inconvenience.

I can wait, I'll just set everything up manually for now.

Also, I noticed that if I set hair up manually it's listed as hair in the scene viewer, using the assistant it lists the hair as cloth.

The explosion thing only happens when trying to use the assistant with hair, if I use the assistant with a clothing item, it works just fine.

Hello,

You are right, in the assistant, hair are listed as cloth. I will try to modify this.

In fact, the problem is the "Animated by Host" function. If you use the "Animated by Host" function for hair or for clothes in Poser, you will have this issue.

The hair work very well with the assistant because the settings are well defined. I will do another tests and I will send you the method for using the hair assistant in Poser. I can explain the method.

  • import the hair a first time as cloth.
  • Rename the ActorName_VWD as you want NewActor for example. The program cannot import a _VWD actor as dynamic actor.
  • In poser, change the parent of the hair and select the head of the character.
  • Eventually, change the position of the hair. (set all the translations to zero).
  • Then, you can work as usual : Import the collision actor, import the hair using the assistant and run the simulation.

I will confirm the method soon. This method works only for hair.
