Ohhhh, and there's a version for 2.79 I can try out until I'm finally able to get 2.8x.

It really seems a bit weird now, but I actually went through the exercise of recreating the mesh for the bistro building in the attached image a few years ago. This took seriously ages... okay, days and days and days! And ... it's still not done. And now, we have this. Content creators for Poser or DS have no excuse anymore - what was once the realm of geniuses like StoneMason and Faveral is now quickly and easily achievable by anyone, quickly, almost effortlessly.

Beautifully done Robyn. I'm also really liking it a lot.

Thank you, Lobo and MissB. All I really wanted to do was take what Faveral created - the buildings were essentially facades - and make it somewhat more accessible. An interior that can be perceived from the outside gives a lot more dimension to a structure. If I didn't already have so many irons in the fire - composition / beekeeping / gardening / and still working part-time - I'd probably spend a bit more time with this. It's terribly tempting, of course: been watching where Blender's headed, particularly with 2.90, and it just boggles the mind, doesn't it?

Yes it does seem like current development since the introduction of 2.8 has been jumping leaps and bounds with all that has come out just these last few months it has been amazing

Blender has finally caught the attention of the professional studios now, and so donations in the millions of dollars have been pouring in from really huge names in the industry. This will undoubtedly mean much faster development and introduce many professional tools to the software that may have never been worked on previously. I'd be willing to bet that somewhere down the road, certain software companies will license customized versions of Blender and develop it as a branded distro, just like Corel and some others tried to do with Linux back in the day.
We're definitely going to benefit from some high-end features now that some professional studios are paying attention. Things like CrytpoMatte, for Rendering ID Mattes with Cycles, was introduced with the release of Blender 2.8. Cryptomatte was created at Psyop Studios and had become the industry standard way to create ID mattes for rendering and compositing 3d in VFX. We're likely to see many more advancements like this, especially in the compositing and rendering areas of the software. I also expect to see a lot more attention paid to the import/export features of the software as well, since that will play a huge role in how many studios adopt Blender into their pipelines.
Currently, I think 3dsmax still has the most 3rd party support of any high-level software, but I expect this to change. We're going to see some really powerful addons or plugins developed by some talented artists working for studios, and many of them will be conversions or translations of existing plugins that had previously been used in 3dsmax and or Maya.

Well, that turned out not to be true. I went to Gumroad, and it seems they came out with version 1.0 for 2.8, so all previous releases are no longer available. I tried installing the ones I had downloaded the other day, and they didn't install. I also tried the "current" one, and it installed, but gave me errors, because it's really for 2.8x. Oh well, something to play with when I finally get 2.8x installed.

It's certainly exciting times. It all started with Epic Games awarding the Blender Foundation a $1.2 million cash development grant last year. Then Ubisoft made their move, contributing over $2,700 per month to the development of Blender 2.8x, calling it a "gamechanger in the CG industry". Then another big patron came in, and this one may eventually change things on a technical level more than anything else; Nvidia has made a very significant contribution. They won't say exactly how much, but we know they've made patronage donations of around $10.000 per month.
So development funding has really approached levels of large corporate entities now. I'm not sure how much funding goes into Maya or 3dsmax development each year, but I'd be surprised if it far exceeded the Blender patronage and donations for 2019.
