This feature has always been there, it involves the same map to share the same value over all the MAT zones. Unfortunately, you cannot designate a different value to a particular zone unless you use a different map, at least to my understanding. But you need to take caution when attempting those modifications on individual zones, you start to get strange results in your renders.

I have noticed that when I change the Gamma for the trans map images for hair in poser 11, the change is copied to all the other MAT zones of the hair. (I love this). Has it always been that way or is this a new feature? On the off chance that I DO want to have a different Gamma in one of the MAT zones, is there a way to change this?
