Subject: How to access V4 open-close hand, raise-lower arms, etc?

Am running V4.2 with Morphs++ in P11.2 and I swear I used to be able to find a section (FBM?) where these controls could be found. However, I've looked all over without success. Everything else works normally and V4/Morphs++ both must have been successfully initiated during the installation I did months ago or nothing would work. I'm wondering if the update to 11.2 broke this feature? It's been at least that long ago since I remember those lost features working.

Hi - thanks for the quick response!

With V4>Body, Parameters tab selected, there are no Morphs++ options available. I only get those if I select V4>Head, Chest, etc. parts. But no Morphforms option anywhere.

All initialized morph packages will appear under Morphs/Shapes on the body Parameters regardless of whether the actual morphs are loaded or not. The panel below how that setup looks. If you don't see those packs, either initialization did not occur correctly or those files have been moved from their installed location.

Thanks for the image of how things should be. (I don't have V4 WM but that shouldn't matter for the morphs I am referencing.)

Am running W7 64 Pro. I looked in program files > Smith Micro > Poser 11 > Runtime > Libraries > Character and see only Poser characters there. My recollection was a long time ago when I did the forced upgrade to 11.2, it pooched my system. Had to reinstall everything from scratch. For some reason, manually installing V4 and Morphs++ into the Runtime folder and manually initiating them (the .bat file thing) did not work. (The DAZ Installer used to do this correctly but they removed that feature at some point.) V4/M++ was listed in the Library but did not load.

What finally worked was installing V4/M++ in my C:/ Documents library (where Poser insists my saved projects should go), manually initiating them and using Poser's Add to Library feature to point Poser in the right direction. Everything else works fine -- just not Morphforms. Maybe Poser needs V4/M++ in the C:/ Program Files Runtime folder for Morphforms to work? Any tips on doing so would be appreciated...

It appears this is not an initialised v4.

Before you upgraded to 11.2 where was your v4? Was it in Daz content library? In which case it might still be on your system . Have you searched your system for "My DAZ 3d library"? If it is still there you can just add that back to poser by using the add library function.

All the Generation 4 models and morph packs must be in the same runtime for the initialization to work. So if V4 is installed in her own runtime folder, the morph files must be loaded into the same. As a matter of clarification, it is advisable that no content be placed into Program Files where the Poser installation is placed by default. In Windows OS from Vista and above, UAC will interfere with any addon as a matter of internal security. You will either have erratic behavior or no access to content. The only content should be Python scripts in the core program. All content should be installed into the default, shared folder. On the upgrade, if you didn't select keep your custom preferences during installation, you will get a fresh install with no custom runtimes attached. However, the update will remove legacy content that came with the original Poser 11 install.

Hi - I re-initialized V4/M++ where they currently reside (Documents) but with no improvement noted.

None of the original files remain from the original Poser 11 installation; everything had to be reinstalled from scratch after the 11.2 forced update debacle.

Even with Poser 10 on Windows XP I never had any luck adding V4/M++ manually. Back then, the DAZ Installer was the only way it worked for me and that feature no longer works with my Poser 11.2.

My plan, then, is to make a backup of the current C:/ Smith Micro Program Files (just in case) and then manually install the various V4/M++ Runtime sub-folder contents into their corresponding folders already in place where the Poser content was installed by default. I wonder if I need to create a DAZ People folder in that Runtime first so Poser doesn't get confused?

I didn't see your reply until after my last post. So I WON'T mess with the originally installed program files, then. I'll see what I can do to make V4's Runtime include M++.

With the update to 11.2 I DID select to keep my custom preferences during installation -- but that's not what happened. Took me almost a year to rebuild my library.

I recently rebuilt a computer I salvaged from work and loaded Poser 11.3 on it along with V4 and M4 from original installers under Windows 10. Custom runtimes were created for both models on a separate internal drive with their corresponding morph packs installed as well. The installation automatically initialized both models and they work as they should. Another thought, make sure that there is only one instance of V4/M4 installed. Individuals have posted that applying morphs under those conditions did not work correctly afterward. And if you are still using original installers, go back to DAZ and download the zipped versions; I believe that the initializations are already done for you.

The script scans the folder hierarchy and creates the injection templates for all morphs found. If this is not run, your V4/M4 figures will be missing many features.

To find out if there are multiple installs of V4 enter "Victoria 4.2" into the Poser search bar (assuming you have 4.2). If more than one entry is listed right click over the icon and select "Show in Explorer" to find out where each version is installed. I've have a pre Daz manager version from an old archive plus the current Daz installer version so two appear.

Thanks for the tip! I did not know a partial initialization could occur where some morph features would work and other might not, or that adding new morphs requires re-initialization. I normally run the DzCreateExPFiles script in both the V4/M4 character AND its matching M++. I don't know if it will still work this way once I place the M++ IN the character's Runtime...

Thanks for that info! I did the search and found quite a few hits, most of them were for accessories though -- looks like I only have a single location for the V4/M4 characters and their corresponding M++.

So I'm going to manually copy and insert the files of the M++ Runtimes into their corresponding V4/M4 characters' Runtimes while also preserving these files in the M++ Runtimes -- since these morphs ARE listed and added separately in the Poser Library; I'll see if that works. I did make a backup in case this doesn't work...

Finally got Morphs++ to work completely by doing as others suggested having V4/M++ share the same Runtime -- but NOW I have the dreaded "Eyes Won't Close" syndrome...

Did a search here and on Google for this problem and I tried changing the Open/Close Eyes Parameter control deltas, but with no signs of improvement. Any other Ideas? This is on a Poser 11.2 W7 PC running current releases of V4.2 and Morphs++.

(I'll start a new thread if this one's a poor location for this question.)

IIRC, there was a broken version of one of the DAZ files installed with V4 at one time, that is causing the Eyes won't close. Even rebuilding the V4/M4 addons with DzCreateExPFiles won't fix a problem if it remains in this file.

Check in the V4/M4 Runtime/libraries/!DAZ/Victora 4/head that the file 05-ps_pe069_DAZ_ERC.pz2 contains the section below: Screen Shot 2020-04-22 at 11.46.27 am.png

If that section is somehow missing, or not identical, then the eyelids won't close. If you have to edit the file to fix it, make a backup, first, just in case.

I found the file but don't have an editor that can give me the info like you show. Is there one in PP11? Notepad and Wordpad are not helpful here.

Notepad ++ is your best bet for the scriptwriting and editing. And the best thing about it, it's free.

Thanks for the tip! Installed it and checked the referenced file against what an0malaus suggested but found no difference. However, I know I've read other threads about changes to make to those deltas and now that I have a way to edit them I can try some changes.

I FINALLY found a fix that actually worked for me!!! I'll post this in a related thread I've got going so more people can find this solution.

None of the other fixes involving changing deltas worked for me. Here's what I did: in the Public Documents > My DAZ 3D Library > Runtime > Libraries > !DAZ > Victoria 4 > Head folder of the DAZ-installed V4 and Morphs++ , where the two share a common Runtime so the Morphforms work correctly... but in my case V4's eyes won't open or close, I noticed NINE files in the Head folder -- not FIVE like the normal V4 Head folder has and where the eyes open and close as they should. So I deleted the NINE files and replaced them by copying the FIVE files to the Head folder. Then I launched Poser and loaded V 4.2 to see what would happen. V4 wouldn't load and Poser informed me there was a missing file required, and it's name: 05-ps_pe070_DAZ_Chnnls.pz2. So I found that file out of the group of NINE I had previously deleted, added it to the FIVE I replaced the NINE files with, ran the DzCreateExPFiles-V4.bat file in !DAZ Folder to initialize everything before launching Poser, AND THIS TIME WHEN I LOADED V4 THE EYES ACTUALLY WORKED!!!

Apparently, when you have the DAZ Installer merge V4 and Morphs++ into a shared Runtime, it adds some extra files in the Head folder which creates a conflict that breaks the V4 eye open-close parameter dial adjustment. But if you remove those files and replace them with just the FIVE files that are found in the V4 Runtime > Libraries > !DAZ > Victoria 4 > Head folder of an installation where it ISN'T merged with a M++ Runtime, plus return the 05-ps_pe070_DAZ_Chnnls.pz2 file found in Head folder of the DAZ-combined V4/M++ merged Runtime, that fixes the problem... At least on my platform... There is a chance I may in time find this fix has created other problems, but they can only be head-related since that's the only folder I modified. But Poser seemed happy once I added that sixth file (05-ps_pe070_DAZ_Chnnls.pz2).

Okay -- I did find a few problems and if I check out some more of those original NINE files there may be one or two more to add back some time later when I have the time... but they aren't showstoppers for me so far. Once you load Morphs++ to V4 there are a few head-related anomalies: The Morph++ parameter dials for Head Size is comical -- only the eyes and teeth enlarge. But yo can easily change the scale of the head directly using the Scale editing tool mouse pointer. The neck works okay. With the Full Body morph dials, the head doesn't change along with the rest of the body. In the coming days or weeks I'll look at the other Head folder files I removed to which ones I might need after all...

Okay -- this is probably my last update on this issue unless someone brighter than me on the inner workings of Poser and V4 can further enlighten me. I will also post this in the other related thread for maximum chance of it helping others...

So I did try analyzing the geometry functions and deltas in the remaining 3 files I had deleted of the original NINE that DAZ installed in the V4/M++ shared Runtime that broke V4's open-close eyes parameter dial when they were present. However, without those files, although the eyes worked, NOW the Morphs++ head scale and whole body morphs DIDN'T work on the head part. IIRC, only the file: 05-ps_pe070_DAZ_ERC.pz2 seemed to have any function related to morph delta adjustments -- yet none of its parameters controlled the head scale. I reinstalled it in the Head folder and it broke the eyes without fixing the head scale problem. I then installed the other two previously removed files of the original NINE and the Head scale worked again -- but not the eyes. In the 05-ps_pe070_DAZ_ERC.pz2 file I noticed duplicate eye morph features and different deltas from the 05-ps_pe069_DAZ_ERC.pz2 file and thought that was conflicting with it -- so I removed all the items dealing with the eyes to see if that would fix it... but it didn't help.

Basically I tried every logical combination of those 3 originally deleted files of the original NINE to see if there was a combo where both the eyes AND the head scale would work, but none was found. So if I remove those 3 files of the original NINE the eyes work and the vast majority of the other ++Morphs work normally. But the head scale, some of the character face adjustments, some of the general face emotional expression adjustments don't work. It is interesting to note that in most of these cases, there are also right and left controls for the same parameter that DO work. Go figure.

But then, more recently, I'm unable to load Base morphs and Morphs++ to V4. I went back to Daz and manually downloaded the V4 Starter bundle I bought last year and reinstalled it. The Base morphs are in the head, but the other morphs are nowhere to be found. Luckily, I had copied her to a cr2 file back in January and that has the Morphs++, but her eyes won't close. There are some things that don't work either (can't remember offhand).

I thought I was the only one with this problem with V4.

In fact, read the entire thread if you care to. Seems there is some corruption in some version(s) of V4 of items in the Head folder, and swapping these folders from the current DAZ V4 download into your existing V4 may be the cure. Hope this helps you!

I had already manually downloaded it and manually reinstalled it with no success the other day. But, today, I reran the !DAZ folder exe file and bat file. And I loaded V4 and ran the injection pz2s. She has her morphs! The original V4 can be injected again! I've done this before with no success. She even closes her eyes! What was different today? I ran them while online (I'm usually offline). Thank you so much for your help. You prompted me to not give up. And I'm glad you, too, have a functional Vicky. v4pic.jpg

Happy to hear you got Vicky working again! Sometimes it is difficult to know WHY a particular fix fails numerous times and then finally works later...very frustrating. Perhaps the moon was in its proper phase to please the Poser God this time around. I hope you now create a system backup image that includes you're now functional V4 to use next time something like this happens...
