Subject: Locking hands in place in animation ?

Some years ago I created a short video for work. In it, my character had his hands on a work desk, then bent closer to the desk to look at a paper. I locked the hands in place and then just manipulated his chest. The shoulders and arms etc all moved 'correctly' and the hands stayed put. It worked fine and the character bent forwards to look close at the paper without the hands moving on the desk. Trouble is, I can't for the life of me remember how I did it... I'm pretty sure it was actually fairly simple. Anyone able to help? I'm using an ancient Poser 4...

Get the hands where you want them and turn on IK for the hands/arms. or after turning on IK for the hands/arms, select and drag(or move with dials) the hands where you want them.

Consider me insane if you wish, but is your reality any better?
