Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 18 10:25 pm)
Good Morning Renderosity Forum members.
I have tinkered with Joe Publics weight mapped low res M4 and was able to apply it to HD M4 using the setup room. I used the low res version as the donor and hand painted the edited weight maps to work with the HD version.
The resulting figure is able to accept M4 morph injections, but is not developed enough to use in the traditional dial-spun way of using M4 morphs. To continue fine-tuning for distribution, I'm going to have to learn Cr2 editing to make sure I am protecting the intellectual property of DAZ. One problem that I can foresee is that I am on a Mac and haven't been able to find a good cr2 editor. Maybe, I can run it through Wine like some other .exe files I have had success with.
Is there anyone who can give me pointers to copy the code from the regular M4 cr2 morph channels to the new figure without disrupting the weight maps? I have never been very good with coding.
Thanks!

I tried that method and it doesn't work as intended because the new figure is based on the Cr2 from the Low res Joe Public offering. Some morphs like eye movement and chest size don't transfer over. I hypothesize that I will need the code from the M4 cr2.
Maybe these are not morphs (with deltas) then? I do not know M4 very well.
Hi FVerbass,
I tried the the same above method again in and in varying sequences to see if I had made a mistake in loading the morphs, but I ended up with the same result. Thank you for mentioning the deltas, I will try to transfer those as well. I saw a script earlier that does this specific task.

Bear in mind that Morph Manager is old software - Poser 4 vintage - and doesn't understand many of the newer techniques. If you do want to try it, please test on a copy of your files because it might break more than it fixes.
The same caveat applies to CR2Editor, by the way, although it's less likely to destroy features that it doesn't understand. Things like eye movement and chest size that you mentioned are done by ERC rather than morphs, so this sounds like a job for CR2Editor to me. I'm not sure where the best ERC tutorials are to be found these days - you'll need a guide for sure! Hopefully someone else can chip in on that score.
Setting up the eyes controls is easy enough using the dependency editor
Eye controls are usually titled Side to Side and Up Down, there's also a twist dial although that's generally not useful for eyes.
Eye controls will be a dependency with the master appearing in the head and slaved rotations in the left and right eyes.
Rotation Dials in Poser are yellow highlighted. Green is scale. Orange is translation.
We'll be concerned with the yellow rotation dials. You can change the name of any dial by double clicking the dial and changing the name in settings. This just changes the display name on the parameters palette.
I'm going to use La Femme for the demo, she already has eye controls but we'll just set up a second set...

With the head of your figure selected, click the white triangle at the top right of parameters and select Create New Master Parameter. Name it Side to Side (yrot). The Dependency Editor will appear. You want to be in the Keyed Dependencies tab. Your controls are ready to be set up.

Click Start Teaching
Set the Dial in the Editor to 1
Select your figures Right Eye and in parameters set the yellow y rotate dial to a value that seems right for the rotation (I set it to 25°)
Select your figures Left Eye and perform an identical y rotation to match the right.

Set the editor dial to 0 and zero the rotations of both eyes parameters.

Set the editor dial to -1
Select the Right Eye and dial the y rotation to -25°, repeat with the Left Eye.

Click stop teaching, zero the editor dial which should restore the eyes, and close the editor.

Find your new master dial in the head, it'll be in the Other group but you can drag it to any other dial group or create a custom dial group.
click the white triangle and select settings. Here you can force limits on dial values and adjust dial sensitivity. For this side to side I set limits min value -1 max value 1 and crank up the dial sensitivity to 0.020 for a snappier dial.

You can set up like master dials for Up Down (x rotate) in the same way...

...also have you tried creating an injection of the missing morphs?
You can load just the missing ones on a blank M4, file export morph injection, pick the morphs you want to transfer, and save the injection pose. The deltas should be transferred to a like named pmd. There's a chance they might transfer over better than trying the included M4 morph injections.

Good Afternoon EldritchCellar,
Thank you for posting these tutorial screenshots. I have downloaded them and will refer to them in the future.
As far as the M4WM project, I am making progress. ALL of the morphs work (Hiro, Freak, Elite, etc) with the exception of the ERC dials that are part of the Morphs++. They show up in the parameters section but appear to be broken. I will be researching the issue further although documentation is old and scarce for ERC controls (eye-movement, leg length, head scale, etc) I feel as that these need to be fixed for this to be a viable working M4 for copying previous characters over the the new figure.

Hi emjay247... For traditional ERC, and the option to include a mixture of dependency editor derived controls with ERC, I'd take a look at Netherwork's Spawn scripts in the MP. Very powerful and versatile, this in combination with Poser's built in editor should let you perform any kind of ERC operations you might want to make. These things can propagate to injection poses too.
Also be aware that image 5 is wrong, although the accompanying text is correct (editor dial should be at -1 in image). Sorry was tired and interrupted when I created the how-to...
Take care.

I know there are a couple for V4 ... but are there any out there for M4/K4?
