Subject: Poser Screen of Death

In some ways I apologize for writing here because it it old news to many. But it looks like end of the line due to the [Stupidity of the] Renderosity business model.

I got the pop-up for the Poser Kill Switch on my Game Developer Software on my stand-alone Grpahics machine today, August 27th 2020. I now have seven days until my 2014 / Game Developer Software deactivates unless I enter a code. Do you have a code I can enter? If not, all the models (more than $1,000 worth) that I have bought for it will no longer have an application... unless I load Daz, who's business model in my understanding does not have a kill switch. You folks at Renderosity can see I've been buying models right into this month, and you can also see how much more than $1,000 I've purchased from you since, what, Poser 3? I've been a good returning customer for you, haven't I?

I need a software that once loaded will never die unless the underlying operating system goes away.

I bought Poser 11 before I knew the Kill Switch existed but have never loaded it. First it was because of issues reported to be with the search and the Library, and later it was because I had heard that Renderosity continued the Smith Micro mistake of having a Kill switch. If I had known that Game Developer would trigger the death of my Poser 2014 I would have stayed away from it.

I cannot see supporting models for a software that will arbitrarily stop working on my machine. In the long run that's just throwing money away. I really do not see how Renderosity benefits from this business model... unless Rendo folks have seen the light and done away with this coding piece of antiquity, the same way software packages got rid of dongles back in ancient times and for the same reasons.

I'm going to ask some questions and maybe someone can help me? Right now I have a stand alone graphics machine that is firewalled from the web. It is running Windows 7 because all of the grpahics software works on it just great, and I think that my upgrade to win 10 will include a more powerful machine when I start buying new software.

(1) Can I get a code, please, to keep my installed Poser game developer still operating? It's perfect for what I'm doing right now and Renderosity makes a monthly income on the models I continue to buy.

(2a) Can I run Poser 11 on my standalone machine without having it check in and die?

(2b) Is my Poser 11 (Pro or the top line whatever that was) valid for upgrade?

(3) Is there a way to go back to an earlier version of Poser (7, 9, 10, 2014) before the kill switch and load that on my machine to keep running? Does anybody know what I need? I have always bought the physical versions, paying extra for a disc where extra cost was involved.

I have been a loyal and profitable repeat customer of Renderosity since at least 2009.

If anyone can help keep me going, it will be greatly appreciated. If Poser 11 no longer has a Kill-switch loading it will be a no-brainer. Is there anyone out there?

Otherwise I think I will let Poser and my modeling hobby go for now until I get a set of clean disks and try DAZ. That just means that all my poser models and all my poser tricks will probably trigger errors to begin with in their software, a learning curve and a new headache. It also means no more money to Renderosity and no support for the new characters, which by the way I have bought in limited quantity in hopes thatt Rendo would eventually see the folly and uselessness of the kill switch and all the extra labor and headaches it creates for questionable benefit. There is simply too much money involved in model purchases and artist support to be held hostage to one company's whims.

The Renderosity Poser Clock is ticking until Rendo shuts down my Poser, as you can see, above. Help?

You are eligible to upgrade your Poser 2014 Game Dev to Poser 11.3 for free as long as you have a valid license code for your present version. That upgrade can be found here: https://www.posersoftware.com/. Unfortunately, the phone home feature is still active with this version and maybe addressed when Poser 12 becomes available. In the meantime, with Poser 2014 Game Dev no longer supported, you can upgrade to Poser 11 and take advantage of all the new features and content Rendo has to offer.

It still needs to 'periodically' connect to the internet to 'check it's still valid' only now way more often than before.

If you had PoserPro 2014 and then got the upgrade to Game Developer you can re-enter your original PoserPro2014 licence to downgrade Game Developer to plain PoserPro2014 which will then no longer need to connect to the 'net.
