I'm finishing my trial on poser 11.3, i'm about to buy it, but i wonder if i will have to pay an upgrade to poser 12 when it'll come out ?

I would wait for Poser 12 although it still will have more work on it as time progresses. Don't bother to buy Poser 11.3 then having to pay for an upgrade to Poser 12.

$129.00 is a fairly common upgrade price for a major software package. I do realize with this covid thing going around people are out of work and have no spare money for hobby purchases.

They are currently giving away a free copy of Poser in one of the many cool contests Renderosity has... it's still open and you don't have to do much, really... have a look see

Are there any compelling reasons to NOT upgrade? I heard they ditched Face Room. Did they drop anything else? I never used it much but I don't like losing features. I'm an intermediate user at best and doubt I'll have much use for whatever new stuff they added, much less understand how to take advantage of it.

In my opinion Poser 12 is is a Work In Progress at the moment. It apperas to be pretty stable but lots of things don't work quite right at the moment. In general all Python scripts require an update and lots of materials need some reworking. Expect a lot of updates (of both Poser and a lot of content) in the next couple of weeks and months. Jumping on the bandwagon now means you can enjoy the fun of working through the problems and maybe have some influence on the solutions.

If you just want to create art (or other work) pay the money to get the upgrade (relatively) cheap but wait until early next year to install it. By then most issues should be fixed and using it will be less frustrating.

It's looking promising but too many issues at the moment. Fun to join the hunt for the issues but not really useable to do real work.

If you're new to Poser and can't afford to buy Poser 11 and the upgrade you could buy Poser 12 and start learning with that (it does work well enough for that purpose). Otherwise stick with Poser 11 and upgrade later.

Faster rendering and modern render nodes will always be better in the end. The new Python is a requirement for the future but a bitter pill to swallow at this moment. It is a big step but that happens after standing still for 5 years.

Not ditched ... but ... I don't know how many Python scripts you are using. Those will not work anymore, because it was updated to the newer version.

Some older scripts will be updated, some not.

If you use any 3rd party Pythons, you may want to wait. None of those work as the language has been updated to version 3. Some are working on updating a few essential scripts. Also be aware most previous Superfly mats released for purchase look like crap in new Superfly as Cycles nodes have also been changed.

If you are brand new at Poser or only use Firefly and never used 3rd party scripts, go ahead.
