Well lets hope all turns out well , else they will need some new Personell to answer all the support tickets ! Wishing you the best of luck as also my little business depends on it , so hope that it will get some lost Creators and customers back . I just sit back and watch the show until all gets into balance. And before I rush getting 12 I sure want to exactly know what I get that would promise a better workflow then 11 for my Poser Creations

So best of Luck , and may your marketing strategy taken the right path .

Ah, good news for everyone, who could not effort the Poser Pro line, and never felt comfortable with the free Blender software. Now its Cycles render engine is availeble for 129$ for Poser users.

At least there is a trial and I can run a test if my creations are still supported ! A Quick check to make sure that future Poser releases made with PP11 and below work as they should.

A thing that is bugging me is that on the Buy button there is no System requirement info, It is not mentioned that it only can be activated through Internet and that it need a constant connection to it ! unless I am missing something , but this is a pretty Important Info avoiding to mislead Customers.

Well they might of removed that Call home feature at last ( Cool ) a great stepp they done :) if so I'm with it

ok found it , the Poser documentation just has been activated !

randym77 ( ) posted Mon, 02 November 2020 at 1:16 PM

I tried running this benchmark:

https://www.sharecg.com/v/86389/view/11/Poser/Superfly-render-test-scene

(I had to attach my old Poser 11 runtime to open the scene.)

Same computer, same settings. Took 20 minutes to render the scene last time, just short of 14 minutes with Poser 12.

Probably need to play with Adaptive Sampling & using the Denoising with lower sample rate to minimize render times.

I did that same scene in 6 min and 23 sec with the OptiX enabled

Ok I also ran a test with different setups I made. I have to say I do not run a high end machine for 3D , this has quiet a reason . Due the fact that I do make models I need a good balance to avoid that a customer gets a model that would have issues on a slower Computer, not everyone can afford him self the Newest , the best !

So on my Comp i7 - 2600 Cpu and not a RTX graphic card things worked so far OK . I am actually never on the net with My 3D creation machine but the trial required a active Internet connection already just to run the first time before the Register splash screen would appear ! So I made an exception by Plugin in a wifi adapter !

The Models Loaded a little slower then on PP11.1 , render time about the same on firefly , Superfly took longer then on PP11 do not know the reason , after a Material change on the test model that makes a slimy effect it shut down my Computer on one hit after 3-5 sec ( A shock ) as first I was not able to turn it back on , but my Luck after a few minutes it booted back up again ! Guess my CPU overheated for a moment :( the same setup did not cause a shutdown on PP11.1 and was a 20 sec render ! so no Idea what happen and I would not try it again for sure .

Functionality of the models using different WM technologies work just like in Poser 11.1 no loss there . I went into the material room and I might of missed something or have not found it . the Simple features ! they are Puff gone and you seem having to use the advanced Features only , no Idea but if so it is a hassle to make the basic setup for a creator and will for sure cause allot more efforts to get the basic setup done , just thinking on environmental models with 100+ material zones , for these the simple setup sure is a shortcut , but I might be wrong and it is still here somewhere.

So all in all for a Creator it might not be the right investment at the moment but for a simple user that needs it for materials and assets provided to make he's renders it might be a good Investment if he owns a Computer that is not to Old.

You really can speed up Superfly, but so far, the loss in quality isn't worth it. I guess I haven't found the right settings yet.

randym77 ( ) posted Mon, 02 November 2020 at 10:04 PM

Amor Hair by 3Dream is included in Poser 12. (This is the default settings. IMO, hair tends to look better at lower render settings in Superfly. It starts looking plasticky with too many pixel samples.)

It's hair I find the hardest to get right in Superfly. Somehow, it rarely looks as realistic as everything else. Curly or wavy hair especially doesn't look right. But this isn't bad.testrender2.png

System Requirements

• Internet connection for updates and required online activation.

I am not sure about the constant connection ... we will see.

@Kerya

Made a test run , the licence has a sort of timer built in of 7 day's , meaning after activating the first day and then going offline it will automatically lock Poser the seventh day ! this is not a Piracy Prevention system , it is simply a system that will tell honest costumers " Either you support Poser and Pay or we shut down all what you have collected and Purchased " A Pretty effective method and on Most People it works as for sure they do not want to risk having there collections shut down one day. In theory if in a few years they stop activating Poser 11.3 it would mean that every user needs to update to be able to use the collections further. Such a game can be kept on for decades and ensures the support by Force.

Reading the forums and the thread about what one has Purchased and never used makes even more sense as I also have masses of bought stuff that I never had time to load until now.

The basic idea is that they have always aces to your Purchase the small licence approx 1kb can be changed at any time it can be set on 7 days one day a year or forever but the same time it can be set to individuals to zero . Absolute control ! Actually it is just Sick !

Dear Azath,

There is no locking. The stuff you purchased sits on your drive as before and it will remain there even if you un-install Poser. There is no encryption or protection.

You can think of the conditions for licensing what you want but please stay factual.

If, I'm understanding you correctly, this is a TRIAL version of Poser 12. It's not meant to run in perpetuity, so yeah, they expect you to pay for it at some point to get that full control.
