Subject: Keeping up with the latest on VWD

Gérald, Hi, and I hope you are doing well. I have been checking in to Renderosity about once a week and I alway check the VWD forums too. I have been trying to figure out how to follow development of VWD, but it is not clear by just reading a few comments in the forum. I know you have a twitter feed, youtube and the VWD website, but I have not seen much recent information. I want to learn more about VWD developments where is the best place to get the latest information. I really want to do a lot with VWD but I need to know where I can get the most up to date tutorials or users manuals on all of the new features. I tried to use inflate yesterday but discovered I really don't know how to use it properly. is the a a new manual available yet? Thanks for all of your help.

Hello kwan, I hope you are doing well too.

Thank you for opening this thread and thank you for your wish to work with the program.

Some weeks ago, I was not sure to create a new version. Now, I know what I want to do with the program. I wrote some new functions and I am going to finalize this version. My current main work is to do some clothes and hair. This work corresponds to the wish to always create better simulations. To do so, I need to have very efficient meshes on the clothes and the hair I want to simulate. I also need to define very efficient settings for these products. So I can conjugate these two actions and create assets I can sold here at Renderosity. If I decide to sold these new products, this will help me to have some incomes and to continue the development of the program.

You are full right about the helps. Now the generators are written, I can do some video tutorials showing how to use all the functions included in VWD.

I could write explanations here in the forum, but I think a videotutorial is always the best way to explain a program... If you accept my bad English speaking :-). About the "Inflate" function, I thought it was clear to all users. It is very interesting to see it is not the case even for you who are an advanced user. The explanations in the documentation are certainly not clear enough.

If you accept and if other users also want to collaborate, it would be interesting to do a list of all the functions which need to be explained in the program. I will create very short tutorials to explain each function.

Please, give me your opinion.

Have a fine day.

 Gérald

Gérald, Thank you again as always for your quick response. I have been exporting many clothing obj. meshes from MMD and XNALara which can easily be imported into DAZ as an obj. I know I can use VWD to get the clothes to fit well and then use the transfer utility in DAZ to create a wearable preset. I'm just not always sure which VWD tools to use to scale only certain parts of the imported clothes, for example if the mesh has a longer torso or larger breast than the G3 or G8 figure. Is there a way to fit footwear with VWD then use the transfer utility to get the footwear exported from VWD to behave correctly? I still have not figured out how to use dynamic morphs on something long and horizontal like an animal tail or floppy bunny ears. I really want to learn how to do all of these things and I know VWD can do it. Thank you again.

Is the new version out already? Will it work with the updated python in Poser 12?

VirtualWorldDynamics ( ) posted Tue, 27 October 2020 at 4:03 PM

Hello kwan, VWD can be used to transform clothes to adapt to a character but there are other ways to do so. I currently work on this subject and I found very interesting solutions. If you have an outfit you would like to transform, please, could you send me the Obj file and tell me on which character you want to adapt it. I will do some tests and I will give you my solution(s). I don't know how to create footwear for G8F but I would be very interested by this. Like you, I want to transform shoes from other characters towards G8F. I saw some videos made with MMD, it is very interesting. Is it possible to export the animations in a format readable in DS.

Hello anupaum, I never tried Poser since the new version of the Python scripting. Are there some issues with this new version?

I've heard that they're updating Python in the new version of Poser (which isn't out yet). It would be a shame if the scripts were not backwards compatible. I use VWD a lot and would like to KEEP using it.

:)

Gérald, It is absolutely possible to convert MMD motion to BVH that can be used in DAZ. I use 3DXchange to re target to DAZ characters all the time. I can convert motions for you if yo tell me what motions you have that you like converted. I have have a tread in the DAZ forum that has a couple of videos that I uploaded that are MMD conversions you can download the there. The link is below. Yes I have many MMD clothes I would like to convert that are challenging to fit to G8, I will email the OBJ. Hello anupaum, I want to keep VWD working for Poser. Do you know someone who would have tried VWD with the new version of Poser?

Hello kwan, Your video is really beautiful. I would be very interested to see the result with the hair and the clothes I am going to do. I need more time to finalize this work because my current aim is to work on the theory not on the result. If you are interested, I will sent you some test files in the coming weeks. If you can send me a danse for G8F like the one you used in your video, this would be great. I would be very interested to understand the method you use. About the OBJ file, you can send me one or several MMD clothes. I will do some tests and I will do a short tutorial to explain the method I used. Thank you a lot.

Gérald, Thank you for your comment, I have been trying to create MMD videos in DAZ for a few years. I learned how to convert the motions to BVH a few years ago but the problem is trying to create the scene with stages and lighting. I have found a few effects from MCasual and a few venders from DAZ but the render times are ridiculous with Iray. The videos that I linked to were done using a toon style shader which renders a little bit faster. I will email you the BVH files. The face motion is converted into a DUF file that can only be placed on a G1 character then transfer to G8 with an MCasual script. I with give you instructions in the email.

Hello Kwan,

I can't wait to receive your files and instructions.

Thank you very much for your help.

Just a small info,

I would like to give the ability to create clothes with VWD and FreeCAD. This workflow will need a full videotutorial. This solution will not have the same possibilities than Marvelous Designer but it could allow to create simple clothes with their UVMap informations. The meshing method will use GMSH to create a perfect meshing for VWD.

Give me your opinion on this ability of the program.

I personally currently think about getting the Simply Cloth plugin for Blender or Marvellous Designer for that. I rather would have something like that more focused on hair.

Give me your opinion on this ability of the program. I've never tried FreeCAD, but would love to grab it and try this!

I've never used MMD clothing, but I use Carrara's modeling tools. Here's a workflow that I've been getting Great results with for some clothing - thanks to VWD V2!

  • Load clothing that is meant to be conformed to some other figure then my target figure
  • Remove the rigging from the clothing item - converts it to a single OBJ
  • Use simple scale tools to get the size of the garment close to the target figure
  • Beginning at frame 30 (1 Second mark) animate the figure
  • Send to VWD Cloth and Hair V2
  • Set Simulation as normal - paying close attention to how close I want the cloth to the character, and which items to nail or rigidify
  • Run Simulation

It's amazing!

I'd love to try FreeCAD to make some custom clothes, but this method has been working very well for many clothing items.

An Example: I could give my Genesis 1 character Genesis 8 female clothing. Perform the above steps and, even though the base shape is all wrong, and it's not even conformed to the character, it often yields a wonderful result - but not always.

Many clothing items are not modeled in a way that simulate nicely. Using the above method, we can intervene the workflow after scaling the garment. This time, use the modeling tools to 'fix' what's wrong - fix why it doesn't simulate well, whether that's welding edges, removing a second layer of cloth mesh, deleting sleeves or other reshaping/editing the mesh.

I Love VWD in Carrara!!!

Hello Surody, Dartanbeck and everyone,

Thank you for your reply and excuse me to reply so late.

I didn't know FreeCAD and I thought it could be interesting to create clothes using a free software and VWD. But you are both right, there are a lot of other methods to create clothes. Personally, I use Rhino3D because I like to work first with splines when I want to create a mesh.

Dartanbeck, thank you for your comment. It is great to receive a comment like yours.
