Subject: dson error message on start up.

Notsrella ( ) posted Tue, 03 November 2020 at 3:20 PM · edited Tue, 12 November 2024 at 4:35 AM

Downloaded and installed Poser 12. Features tried so far are fine esp. the shadow catch for Superfly. But on start up I get this grubby grey little window with 'An error occurred importing addon dson.' ERROR: DLL load failed: %1 is not a valid win 32 application.' When closed it doesn't reappear until next start up. If anyone knows how to prevent its appearance I'd be grateful!

Open and edit the file, ( poser > runtime > python > poserscripts > poserStartup.py ) - find and remove all mentions of DSON from it.

Locked Out

Notsrella ( ) posted Tue, 03 November 2020 at 4:41 PM

Hello Structure, Thanks for replying. Being ancient and dim the sequences I managed to find went: python>vendor links., no mention of DSON. Where do I find the 'Poser' at the start of the sequence you gave?

Notsrella ( ) posted Tue, 03 November 2020 at 5:10 PM

Structure, Had another look and got as far as 'poserStartup.py.' . How do I open this file?

hborre ( ) posted Tue, 03 November 2020 at 5:41 PM

I would recommend downloading Notepad++ (free) and use this app to open the py file. It's better than using the Microsoft Notepad that comes with Windows.

Notsrella ( ) posted Tue, 03 November 2020 at 5:59 PM

Thanks hborre,
I might try that but the fact is I'm not able to use my DAZ Genesis figures in Poser 12 whether the message is there or not. I'll just shut it down when it pops up like the 'Poser has shut down' when I close Poser 11.. (I believe we discussed that one some time ago!) Stay safe

jimmy1 ( ) posted Tue, 03 November 2020 at 6:01 PM

You can open it in Notepad but I don't think you'll find it there. Take a look in the addons directory and see if there's anything labeled dson in there and delete it.

ghostship2 ( ) posted Tue, 03 November 2020 at 6:02 PM

maybe Daz would be kind enough to let Bondware to update DSON to Python3 for their customers. I don't have much faith in Daz doing it themselves.

You know they won't. They have official brides to many of the software packages, put them in their store about 2 months ago MAYBE but no Poser so that told me everything. So unless some brilliant mind in the Poserverse can write something similar to DSON for bring content from DS to Poser looks like FBX with all it's limitations will have to do for now!

DAZ and Renderosity are now major competitors in a rather small market. Therefore DAZ will not lift a finger to make their figures available in Poser.

Greetings

Greetings

Not really as Daz still has about 50% Poser assets that the Creators are selling. Still a profit, some Creators there still support Poser and remember also Daz started off with Poser. They are basically two totally different Programs , you also would not say that Blender or iclone is a competitor . So I do not believe that Daz would start to clean out there store from Poser assets

Unless he is really mean and Blows all Millennium Base figures from the market . V4 V3 M4 M3 Down from the market, this would be a major hit as it would cause a major damage to the Poser market. Or even worse retaining the full rights of every Derived asset from these Millenium figures saying they need to be taken down as they use the bone structures !

So I think this Drama about Competition is just a big bla bla and they have behind the doors very good relations , Sometimes I even have the feeling that they are sharing the same Bedroom !

the other side would be if they give support for Daz assets in Poser they would grow and have partly controll over the Poser Market just like they have with the Millenium Figures , so Poser is still the Little Daz Puppy :) just that no-one likes to talk about these things

Azath ( ) posted Wed, 04 November 2020 at 5:15 AM

Updating : @Bastep

Lets see it in a realistic way. Due the Power Daz has being the intellectual owner of the Millenniums, the Genesis and that Poser would never of had any success without Daz they are already controlling the whole Virtual Barbie Ken Market. They are well aware of that fact ! Basically they even control Renderosity ( Bondware ) being owner of these essential models. With just a few efforts they could turn the flow on and off just as they wish , and I believe that there are special agreements between Daz and Renderosity already.

Thank you all for your help. When I do open 'poserstartup.py' in notepad there is no mention of dson, nor could I find anything in 'Addons'. Checking my downloads I found 'dson' for Poser 11.2 dated 2019 whereas the earlier dsons were dated 2014. I installed this ( it removed previous version ) But this version is for 64bits, the error message refers to a non-valid win 32 application. So, as I said before, I shall just delete the error message and not use the Genesis figures. Seems a silly situation DAZ offers so many excellent items.. I used buy quite a lot of this but not now, the need for later, unsupported, genesis material precludes this. I find DAZ studio a cumbersome program to use and can't be bothered to make the effort to become proficient.. Why did DAZ and whoever it was who owned Poser then split up? Was it a high level spat within the upper echelons? I can't help feeling both organisations have lost out to all our detriments. The poser / DAZ conflict is just the World situation writ small I suppose. Anyway, thanks again all and stay safe!

From what I remember aside from the DUF files themselves, the published artists themselves, besides a few that believe in an equal market, complained because their work was doubled for the same price. I know from experience that creating for both platforms is NOT easy. From an end user experience you just expect things to work but behind the scenes getting things to behave equally, esp if it's clothing or accessories or hair, is like walking through a mine field of issues and aggravation.

I did recently purchase a couple of new items from the DAZ store that are fully supported in both DAZ Studio and Poser, called the Lapis Pyramid Tomb and Lapis Pyramid by David Brinnen and ForbiddenWhispers! Nice sets!

I’m glad I checked in here. I use DSON every day for G2 poses. So no Poser 12 for me.

you also would not say that Blender or iclone is a >competitor . So I do not believe that Daz would start >to clean out there store from >Poser >assets.

First.. Blender is a full 3DCC/animation/VFX suite Like Autodesk Maya or Max and Daz studio is just a freeware, loss leader toy with a high quality, well integrated brute, force path tracer to render still images of their excellent Genesis figures and the content sold in thier store and here at Renderosity.

All of the gensis content sold here in the RMP is revenue for Bondware and FREE advertisement for the Genesis figures.

simple, honest commerce, both parties benefit

If you want to know who Daz considers their competition, you only need to look at what is allowed to be discussed on the official Daz forums.

There is a Poser forum on the Daz site where you can Discuss poser 12's new features and post pictures of lefemme or renders with the new superfly with your fast RTX cards etc.

There are Forums for Autodesk Maya ,Max,Maxon C4D,and the two major game engines Unreal 4 & Unity.

This is because Daz has released their own free export plugins to send Daz figures & Content to those apps& game engines in a ( very likely futile) effort to get the pro users of those apps& game engines to buy Daz content.

Reallusion Iclone pro & Character creator 3 are a strictly forbidden subject on the Daz forums and any post/thread you attempt to make discussing the features of Reallusion Iclone Pro & Character creator 3 will be promptly eradicated by the Daz mods.

Fair enough, their forums ..their rules.?

However it is quite clear which 3D figure platform Daz would prefer did not exist, and it is not Poser

Nobody split because nobody was together , DAZ only provided 3D models to Poser and that's all , they built their own program to render their own 3D models and have better control over everything including the program codes, It is easy to say but changing dramatically an original program's codes will downgrade its market value. Daz could merge D|S with Carrara that they own and have better stuff at this time than anything else , but they could not do that for the same reason , there are some legal stuff, copyrights and other legal stuff , complicated situations. However at this time I was talking with D|S programmers and they said they could not agree with the company and find common ground. DAZ since then is no more the same , it is run by different people and have different visions for their business . Some people waiting for a bridge to Poser ? well you can do it already with FBX export and there will be nothing more than that, enjoy sharp like diamond elbows of your figures cutting your monitor screen each time you move the camera inside Poser lol

That's true Richard, but the major problem was that not everything worked the same way in both programs and not all used both programs that made the content, we need to do both versions in the beginning but then the system changes and we don't have to anymore, however doing Poser version of products was never forbidden and is more than welcome . They really don't care if that is for Poser or Unity anymore as long the products sell well that is all what matter , ( sell only at DAZ store ) if PA want to support both platforms it is all fine , just not selling it in other stores as the tools we have in DS are exclusive, and regular users don't have access to it, that's the deal ..

They are one of the few vendors there who still support Poser, which is real nice :)
