Subject: Area render not working properly in Poser 12?

Varnayrah ( ) posted Sat, 02 January 2021 at 10:47 AM · edited Sun, 02 February 2025 at 11:49 PM

Hi,

I hope someone can help me with this...

I yesterday updated to poser 12. Now I'm playing around a bit, and what I noticed:

In poser 11, I very often used area render, for example to change details of a finished image like other eye colour for a figure and so on. Area render allowed me to then render only the eyes. The newly renderd area would merge into the already existing image. Result would be a new complete image with with the new eye colour. This was vastly helpful.

It was also helpful because I could render big images in parts if I dind't want my pc to run over night or while I was away for several hours. I could cancel the render so far as it had come and resume via areal render next time I opened poser. The newly rendered area would merge with the already finished parts of the image.

Now, everytime I try an area render, the rendered area doesn't merge with the recently rendered image, but appears as a seperate image with only the rendered area on black.

I'm using the area render tool in der render tab, whwre it's easier to exactly define which area I'd like to render. But also as I tried using it in the preview tab I'll have that seperate image with the rendered area on black.

This way, the area render is almost useless to me, and I must say the whole update to poser12 gets a backdraw, because I very often have big images that I have to render in parts. I cold save the parts as png and merge them in gimp, but that's not very comfortable...

Is there any solution to this?

I see I'm not the only one with this issue. Unfortunately, I haven't found a solution. I've been saving the renders and stitching them together in 2d software, not a convenient solution.

Hm. If I read the manual correctly, area renders are supposed to overlay the recent render, but it's not happening. I hope that gets fixed...

I put in a ticket about it. Hopefully, they'll get to it eventually.

This is something they are aware of and is working on that we found out in the beta testings.

No, superfly. It's good to hear it's being worked on, thank you

IME, Firefly has never really worked for area render. You end up with a visible border around the area that was re-rendered. It's a Superfly thing.

Also, the area render doesn't appear to respect the post-render effects settings, and when exported you only get a single image rather than one with those effects and one original (consistent with not applying the post-render effects).

Yeah, I noticed that. You have to open the FX screen and export from there. Conveniently. :-/
