Subject: Specularity bug AND Version 12.0.387 lighting broken

AcePyx ( ) posted Sat, 30 January 2021 at 8:56 AM · edited Thu, 07 November 2024 at 2:45 AM

I have a scene with fixed two-point lighting plus an ambient skydome. The scene has a single figure in a wheelchair, and the wheelchair does a 6 second rotation on the spot. From one frame to the next, THEN BACK AGAIN, the specularity on the skin changes - at one moment being very apparent, and at the next being completely non-existent.

Also, beyond a level of 2, increasing the value of the ambient skydome has no effect.

I installed the new version of Poser, and the overall lighting is drastically different than before. Shadow blur radius is one thing, but my scenes are all uniformly much darker and redder.

Environment texture node patched into Background seems to be broken as well. At least, I'm no longer able to get it to work using the Mapping and Texture Coordinate nodes..

Ahh that might be connected to my ambient issue.

hborre ( ) posted Sat, 30 January 2021 at 2:10 PM

But you're working with a dome unless you're using the Environment texture node. ATM, the issue with the node is HDRI related, it's not recognizing those files. However, if you substitute a jpg image, it will render fine.

elena_c ( ) posted Sat, 30 January 2021 at 3:59 PM

Using a jpg as a background (no environment, just background image) is botched as well. Before, I could make it use the Poser Window dimensions by using that as the Texture Coordinate. Now, the background image in its native dimensions is just patched on the background without any sscaling. Useless, unless you adjust your Poser window to background size, which is not what nature intended.

Shadow blur for infinte lights is fixed, but it seems a lot of other stuff was broken in the process.

I agree. This release was supposed to occur approximately 2 weeks ago, that is fine if they needed additional time to properly correct what was broken before. But now, they managed to unintentionally break features that were working fine to begin with.

Oh really - well that sucks. Program released with soooo many bugs. Now how do I donvert an sIBL to jpg? Here's hoping Photoshop will work...

hborre ( ) posted Sat, 30 January 2021 at 7:01 PM

The program I use is sIBLedit, its freeware and works very nicely in generating HDR and jpg. It can also be used to create your own sIBL set for Snarly's EZDome.

HDRIs still cannot be used. I hope that this is a bug and not a feature.

Yes, it's a bug.

Should we report it again, or is anyone know whether it's being worked on? I never know if more bug reports help if it is already known?

hborre ( ) posted Sat, 06 February 2021 at 12:22 PM

I would report it again. The more individual reports they get, the better. Include screencaps and detailed info. I'm going to resubmit later today.

hborre ( ) posted Sat, 06 February 2021 at 12:52 PM

Poking around in the Material Room seems to verify that any HDRI used as a texture is completely broken. That will mean that anyone using EZDome in P11 for P12 use is going to be pretty pissed off.

willdial ( ) posted Sat, 06 February 2021 at 8:18 PM

Does the Poser 12.0.396 release have this issue? I mainly use HDRI for lighting in Poser 12. So, I have held off updating.

Rhia474 ( ) posted Sat, 06 February 2021 at 8:20 PM

The latest release broke HDrI completely and utterly. I am pretty pissed, actually.

hborre ( ) posted Sat, 06 February 2021 at 9:06 PM

I have already submitted a report and a screencap with HDRI and JPG comparison on all the Material Room texture nodes. Got a response that it will be addressed in a future update. However, I suggest that everyone submit a report and stress how important this feature is to all users including vendors. This might prompt them to release an update sooner than later.

This is what is happening now, none of the texture nodes can display a proper HDRI map.

HDRi support is indeed broken, but using an Exr instead is recognized

Good to know on the EXR. I can convert some HDRI if need be in the meantime.

How? I use HDR images all the time and it's driving me nuts. I've been using the jpgs that come with most and running them through an HVS2 node to increase their brightness, but it's not the same.

Get a copy of Picturenaut 3.2. It is freeware and it is capable of resaving HDR to EXR format. Might be able to do the same with IrfanView but I haven't tried that yet. Unfortunately, HDRShop is no longer accessible, it can do the same thing but you have more options and features.

Picturenaut conversion seems to be working for the short run. I hope this will be fixed very soon because this, relying on some other software to convert HDRI in order to have the exact same results as we had two releases of the same software before is, to mildly put, unacceptable.

Submitting bug report now that I have some time as well.

Note: having to reenter my license key even as a registered user every time a new issue is submitted is annoying as eff.
