Subject: I would like to use a Daz product in Poser, which way is best?

I just saw some props on Daz that are just what I need for a personal project I just started woking on.

I just recently started using Poser 12 on my iMac but I also have Poser 2014 installed on an older mac.

I currently do not have any version of Daz installed.

From what I understand i have two options:

  • downloading Daz and exporting all the props as obj's and retexturing (at least I believe I need to retexture if i do it that way)

  • using DSON Importer on the mac with Poser 2014 (since I understand it no longer works on Poser 12)

So I have a few questions:

  1. Which would be the easiest and best way to do this?

  2. Do I need to install Daz in any case even if I use the DSON importer?

  3. If I use DSON with Poser 2014 to create the scene and save it will I be able to open this scene in Poser 12? ( I plan on installing Poser 2014 on the new mac also regardless)

I have been tempted in the past to try this but then never went through with it (there are plenty of awesome poser products out there to work with) but this time I am just desperate to have these props.

I am not sure if i could post the link but the the item in question is the "Antique Architect Equipment" and it does include a DSON Core Installer.

Thanks to anyone who can help!

Easiest for you would be to convert it all in 2014 and save the new ones down to library then you can use it in P12.

Since the products come in DSON format it is easier to import and resave back into the Pose Library as mentioned above. However, be aware that there could be texture shader incompatibility if a simplified shader arrangement doesn't carry over into Poser. Depending on which Poser 12 render engine you use you will need to rework the shaders in the Material Room to get the exact appearance you want in the final image.

If just props then render in DAZ with similar lighting, and bring into the Poser scene as camera-facing 2D billboards. Or composite the renders later in Photoshop.

Thanks to all of you!

I think I am indeed going to try installing DSON importer and doing it that way. I tried exporting the obj's (I installed Daz on the older computer just for that purpose) and I retextured everything with some Superfly shaders that I had, it turned out nicely but then I realised that some of the furniture has moveable parts so that won't work.

I'm afraid that isn't an option, these props would be part of a larger scene mixed together with Poser props/characters so I don't think it would be possible to composite them. But will keep that in mind in the future in case I see other props that could work that way.
