Subject: Content Paradise Moving Here

Tomsde ( ) posted Tue, 04 December 2018 at 6:55 PM · edited Thu, 14 November 2024 at 12:57 PM

I went to Content Paradise's website tonight and it said that they were moving here. I was floored by this--I guess that means Smith Micro is getting out of the content business altogether? Will the they have the own store here?

There is already a Smith_Micro store at RMP and it gets enriched with new content almost daily! :)

SM inherited "content paradise" with Poser ... they never really wanted the "store", this was always an eventuality.

Smith Micro bought Poser in 2007. Content Paradise was created in 2009, though the language says "relaunched" So it's a bit fuzzy. Content Paradise definitely was not listed in the original purchase PR. Here's the citations:

so they then waited over a decade to kill a store they did'nt want...?

does not compute with hosting costs, fees etc.

hence the citation needed...

I doubt they paid anything extra for hosting fees, though I don't know who SM hosts with.

I have 4 websites all under the same plan, and the pricing is for the "space", not how many websites take up that "space".

Just curious -- all these 3d content providers getting sucked into Rendo -- is this becoming a monopoly? I noticed they've taken over Hivewire, and it seems that a lot of prices went up.

Miss B ( ) posted Mon, 05 April 2021 at 6:07 PM

Renderosity didn't "take over" HiveWire, as HiveWire already had an active store here at Renderosity long before they closed their own store.

Um. Hivewire was not taken over, not sure where you got the info. The owners made the decision to focus on development instead of store, and on maintaining a community. The forums and the community is still there and are wonderful. The owners and developers are working on new products and they are selling here. This was no takeover.

Prices are going up everywhere, not just on 3d products. It's part inflation, part 2020 and 2021. The Poser ecosystem is small, especially now that the other software no longer even support Poser formatted products on their marketplace. It is a niche, and the market corrects itself.

This post was a little misleading... Smith Micro MAY have indeed bought Poser in 2007, but it bought it FROM E-Frontier. E-Frontier owned both Poser AND Content Paradise before 2007, so when Smith Micro bought Poser from E-Frontier, it also inherited Content Paradise. Content Paradise was indeed relaunched in 2009, but it already existed.

I don't think it's a monopoly so much as the Poser market is shrinking. A lot of sites just can't sustain themselves any more. Many of us who remain now have so much stuff for Poser we don't need to buy a lot.

A lot of the former Hivewire vendors are participating in Renderosity's regular 50% off sales, plus there are the two yearly 50% off sales that apply to everything. Some vendors might be setting their prices a little higher to offset that. Though I haven't noticed it myself.

I don't think it's shrinking as much as "condensing". Hivewire's a good case in point. They didn't quit or go out of business. Instead, they decided to concentrate on content development for Dusk and Dawn and the HiveWire animals. They decided to let Renderosity handle the transactional business. As a result, more vendors came over to renderosity, a few went rogue, and some went to Daz and CGBytes. So, yeah, you have one less store, but the same number of vendors.

Not really. If anything, Renderosity becoming the owner of Poser keeps DAZ from becoming a monopoly.

Content Paradise vendors were invited to join Renderosity. I sold previously on Renderosity but had stopped adding new content because of some policies. After CP closed, Rendo encouraged us to move our CP libraries over, but also made a lot of changes as well. I am very happy with our relationship with Renderosity. As much as I liked certain aspects of CP and, had a good relationship with the SM folks, CP was in a bad funk. When they introduced an upgrade to the site (remember when it 'went white'?), it changed how people found products. A lot of vendors I know saw their incomes drop by up to 90% overnight.

Rendo isn't a monopoly either. Many long time vendors of Poser content maintain their own sales venues as well, just as I have always done. I am so glad the only brokerage focused on this market isn't DAZ.

Best regards,

chikako

I still don't get it, Content Paradise has already moved? And where can you find their store?

Miss B ( ) posted Wed, 11 August 2021 at 10:11 AM

If you do a search for Content Paradise under Vendors in the Marketplace here, you should get a page with about 48 of CP's products.

Whether that's all of them, I'm not sure.

Content Paradise was closed years ago. Some vendors chose to move here, some did not.

So not everything that used to be at Content Paradise is available here. Just as with RDNA and Hivewire, it was up to the individual vendors to decide whether to move here or not.

In particular, Japanese figures like Terai Yuki and NearMe were not included when e-Frontier was sold to Smith Micro. So those are now only available on Japanese web sites.

If you're looking for a specific item, ask about it here. Someone might know if and where it's available.
