Subject: Biffy thread revisited

Gem_719 ( ) posted Tue, 23 October 2001 at 9:47 PM · edited Fri, 24 January 2025 at 12:15 AM

Sorry I'm so late in getting back to this. An install of some rinky-dink software title totally trashed my operating system causing me to reformat the C: drive and reload the OS and all my software from scratch. Thank hellmouth Biffy was visiting my old computer at the time! I was actually thinking of producing several of the associated characters. Maybe in pairs like Biffy/Mangle, Pillow/Dander, Pike/Brew, (Does that keep me safely away from the copyright police? ) The whole series would be called the "Bat Pack". (Anyone get that old reference?" ) Also, I'd include a few props (gotta have at least a stake and cross), faces, poses, etc. Do you think they'd sell better in pairs or seperately? Not everyone has both Vicky and Mike I'm thinking. WTB: Gotta admit, Spike's my fave! Or is it Angel? I can never make up my mind! Both are equally drool-worthy. And I swear on a stack of Codices (the plural of Codex) I never knew of the freestuff version you had put out there! And it looks like you did so just a few days before my post. That's timing for ya! I'd been working on mine for weeks before that. Honest!

Actually Gem, I have an old one in a package called "Very vicky" which I think is no longer in freestuff. The one you see here now came after your thread. Your version inspired me to go back and rework mine and I was very satisfied with my new results. I was hoping you would get my IM about maybe collaborating, but I see due to your problems that was not to be. I have done the following characters, though I had a hard drive crash of my own that caused me to lose several. Buffy Willow Dawn Druscilla Anya Tara Cordellia All of these still exist Of those that do not: Angel Xander Riley Giles Wesley Oz In the workshop: Spike ------------------ I will say this in the nicest way I possibly can... I strongly oppose seeing celebrity characters in the store. I am particularly enamoured with the Buffy characters. I have made them in the past, present, and will continue to do so in the future. Each character I make will be released when it is as close to perfect as I think it can be and will in the future include: A Body Morph Pose, a Face Morph Pose, A Material Pose file and will all be distributed for FREE. Therefore, we will be bumping heads on this if you continue along the lines of selling the characters. That isn't meant to be a threat, just a warning. You can continue to think of selling them, whatever you like. But what would be better for everyone (Me, you, fans of the show, downloaders, the community, etc) would be for us to combine our efforts. Between the two of us, we should be able to get each character perfect. But I will only agree to this if everything is kept free for the people. -WTB

WTB, I'd love to see images of your Tara and Drucilla; any chance of a Faith or Kendra for kicks? I'm trying to formulate the later for fun.

Here's Spike!

ronknights ( ) posted Wed, 24 October 2001 at 5:11 AM

Um, are you guys lucky enough to have a CD Writer? If not, you ought to buy one. They're the cheapest means of backup I've found so far...and they can be great protection against computer crashes. I have downloaded just about everything you can get on Renderosity and other web sites. Everything is backed up on a large set of CD's....for my own personal use of course. (Artists don't want us redistributing their work.)

Okay, I admit to being a total newbie, but I want to do Buffy characters also. Free, of course. I have a friend who has Mike and Vicki. Is it better to use them than the P4 people? Any chance you guys could toss a few morphs my way so that I don't have to start completely from scratch? I'm reluctant to get Vicki and Mike just because I'd need to make new morphs for everything, and I've just barely gotten going on morphs for the P4 woman.

I have a burner. I want Spike, I want Spike, I want Spike!!!

ronknights ( ) posted Wed, 24 October 2001 at 8:29 AM

Mike and Vicki seem to be the ultimate way to go. I've worked with other characters, including Ultramorph Woman 3 by Confusius. She is the first woman I bought (grin). Unfortunately many poses left her arms and legs looking broken. I don't have nearly as much trouble with Vicki or Mike.

I like the Spike, WTB, excellent-love to get my mitts on that. :) A Faith, oh that is wicked brilliant, be looking forwards to seeing the picture. I'm playing dial a vicky with magnet's Alex and have a decent Eliza Dushku look so far, hope to have a halloween pic ready for tomorrow.

Photopium ( ) posted Wed, 24 October 2001 at 11:39 AM

Having the day go by and looking at spike anew, I can see he's not quite ready yet. A truly good Spike probably won't be made until Mike 2 is out but I'll keep at him until then. The problem here might be the hair actually. Going to render some characters now. -WTB

KateTheShrew ( ) posted Wed, 24 October 2001 at 12:50 PM

I don't think it's the hair so much, WTB, as it is the forehead looks a little too broad and his lower lip is just a tad too full. But this is the best Spike I've seen ever. Kate

The Old Darth_Logice Morphs which thankfully (?) survived the hard drive fiasco of 2001. All these are available in the Very Vicky pack which survives, if it's not in fact posted in freestuff at the moment. IF it's not, don't worry about it...anything done on V1 is inferior to what will come out as V2 Versions. Having said that, here's the old stuff once again. Some of these, I swear, used to look better. Had more access to hair back then, for starters, and I didn't have time to try to be very texture specific for each character.

Photopium ( ) posted Wed, 24 October 2001 at 1:36 PM

Dawn seems to have been lost. I think Anya, Faith and Cordy stand out as pretty darned good here. Willow is the one who "used to look better, I swear" though you can tell it's her, I think. Tara used to have some custom scaling that I can't remember that may have helped here. Dawn, when she existed, never looked very good really. So, here's the plan. Redo all of these characters either from scratch or with the help of the old morphs on V2. Furthermore, in the long run, doing the following additional characters: Harmony Jenny Calendar Joyce Summers Glory Dawn Kendra And from "Angel" Fred Leila Kate And all the Males totally from scratch: Giles Xander Angel Oz Riley Principal Snyder The Mayor Ben Adam Jonathan Warren And from Angel: Wesley Gunn Lorne (The Karaoke Host) But first and foremost: Finish Spike! -WTB

a Jonothan! Danny Strong is my favourite, excellent! Oh-must tell Lil Will g Having a Gunn would be cool to boot as would the Jenny Calender. I really like the Faith; the Cordy is a wicked good likeness.

Well, it looks like my efforts towards creating Buffy and her gang will end. It takes a lot of time and effort to create a character (as I'm sure you all know), and I was aming toward creating some income to compensate. Since WTB and others seem to be giving their's away for free (no recriminations from me guys though), I don't see how I can compete with that. Therefor I'll switch my efforts over to something else. What, I don't know yet. Better luck next time, huh?

113 ( ) posted Wed, 24 October 2001 at 6:27 PM

I really like your Faith and Cordy. Can I borrow them for a while? I want to give them new textures. Pretty please?

Crescent ( ) posted Wed, 24 October 2001 at 6:29 PM

WTB- I have some morphs for the Vicki Gel hair that would make Spike's hair look a lot better. Among other things, it flattens the top and sides so it isn't as poofy. Do a search under free stuff for Crescent and you'll see the morphs. Two or three of the morphs in the package will make a big difference for Spike.

Here's a good front shot of Spike (click the top center image to pop up the window). IMHO the hair will be hard to do for Spike, but this pic is more "Marsden hair" so not a truly good reference...the character's hair is usually more spiky punk than curly. I don't know if its really possible to morph his chin right (Marsden has a weird chin).

scifiguy: Marsters, even :) Yeah, about his chin, but I'll get it eventually. Kate: Yeah, you're right about the head top, the hair was supposed to compensate but failed to do so :) 113 - Very Vicky is indeed in the freestuff still and the link actually works! Very Vicky has all of these characters built into her full body morphs. Convienient, eh? A few others too, like an Old Buffy Morph, Old Marilyn Monroe Morph, Bettie Page and one or two more to boot (a few original characters of mine) crescent- thanks for the heads up, I'm off to get them now! You'd think Spike's hair would be simple, but every time I attempt him it's a nightmare. And Finally, Gem: I'm sorry if I'm a bully about all this. Free morphs and characters is something my hero, Traveller started here a long time ago. It is a tradition that is rapidly dying, but as long as I'm around I will uphold it in his name. Nowadays, it seems EVERYTHING goes into the damned store..things that would've been freely shared for no other compensation than appreciation. DAZ sells a model of a U.S. quarter (that's 25 cents for you out-of-towners) for some $25.00. It's this sort of capitalism that will eventually ruin the good-will in the community, IMO. I'm not sure if you have anything else in the store or not. If you don't, I might recommend that you make a few freebies and get yourself a reputation for quality before you go selling stuff. Half of the sales in the Store reflect the respect people have for the name of the member, and the familiarity with their work. -WTB

Worked on Spike some more, think he's better now..still not perfect, he's sort of the "Airbrush" rendition if you know what I mean. When Mike 2 comes out, the ability to make a better spike will be my personal meter on which he is judged. -WTB
