Subject: Poser 7 V4/M4 morph load issues

Torquinox ( ) posted Tue, 18 May 2021 at 11:49 AM · edited Fri, 03 January 2025 at 2:24 AM

I'm late to the party and I'm having a problem. I have this old copy of Poser 7 running on a Win10 PC. It works pretty well, at least as far as I can tell. I actually have a ton of old Poser content that I use in DS, but I wanted to try some morph injection techniques from Pixeluna and Shadownet's Eve Collection in Poser. A new version of Poser won't really help me because current versions won't run the old Python 2.x scripts, and those are needed for the techniques I want to use.

The problem is, I can't seem to get the shaping morphs for V4 and M4 to load properly on the figure. I have the assets properly placed in the Poser Runtime, but when I load the morphs, they either don't load or they seem to overwrite each other. For instance, V4 hip and chest morphs don't seem to load at all.

My research indicates there used to be .exe files to install the figures and morphs in Poser, but the current downloads only have the assets distributed in zips that can be copied and pasted in the appropiate Runtime directories. This works fine in DS, but maybe not in P7.

Can anyone here please tell me what I must do to make the m4/V4 morphs work right? Or is this something lost to the sands of time?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

I used to have (or still do somewhere) the Eve Collection set. If my memory serves these morphs are reliant on V4's Morphs ++/Elite packages; that is to say they are dial spinners, rather than custom morphs utilizing Poser's PMD morph format. Daz figures had a proprietary format, ExP... In order for the morphs to "go live" the figure's injection channels must be prepped to receive the morphs.

Go to Libraries: !Daz: DzCreateExPFiles-V4.bat and run that file. This will prep the figure for the morphs. Load the relevant morph injections. In this case it would be Morphs++ or Elite. Then use the Eve Collection files...

Edit; this bat file should be run before loading V4 if I remember correctly...

Also, there might be issues if V4 is installed outside of the main Poser Runtime... say in an external runtime.

Thank you EldritchCellar. I thought I was missing something. I saw that bat, but I haven't run it. I'll do that on the next try. I do have v4 installed in the main Poser runtime. I'm not sure if I added the elite morphs, but I can do that, too. It will be great if I can get all this to work!

K. Should work fine.

Take care.

I have to dispel some of the statements made in the previous posts. The Bat file is run after V4 is installed and after every morph package is installed. The major criteria that must be followed are that all the morph packages be installed where V4 (also M4) base files are installed, may it be in the primary Poser runtime or another external runtime. Executable files in the past needed to be installed in the same runtime as your Poser.exe but that has changed with the zip files. Under Windows 10, Poser content cannot be installed in the Programs Files folder; problems and complications can occur and your content will wind up in a virtual location. It is best to create an external runtime for your content and link it to the Poser Library, this is possible with Poser 7.

Thanks hborre. My preference would be to have my Poser content in my documents directory. That simplifies my backup. The default location is in the Program Files directory, so I would have to at least copy it somewhere else..If that will work, that 's great! I've already linked an external runtime, so that should be ok. I'll try it and see what happens.

EldritchCellar ( ) posted Tue, 18 May 2021 at 1:34 PM

Hborre is probably right about the external Runtime thing, I may be thinking of the old installer method... I will counter that I've never had any issues with installing V4 and getting the morphs to work. My installation of V4 now resides in my Poser 11 Content runtime. I do however have all of my Python scripts installed in the main Poser runtime and they work fine.

I'll also counter that Hborre is THE renderosity resident expert on installing Daz content. It's his salient artistic ability lol. I defer, I just make stuff. I could have put a timer on his response as it was inevitable.

LOL!!!

Thanks to you both! :) I will try all this and see what finally works.

Success! Thanks again to you, hborre and EldritchCellar. I was not sure when to run the batch file, so I ended up running it a few times. After I loaded the morphs and ran it for the last time, I removed Vicky from the scene, put her back in, and voila! All the dials were there. So cool! I'll do the same for M4 and that should be great! This bodes well for what I'm trying to do. 😁

Along the way, I learned that I can't actually move the whole runtime to another location. Apparently Runtime also stores UI elements and Poser wouldn't load when I did that. I also learned that Poser has different file placement expectations than DS. I tend to move files around, so I'll make a remote Poser runtime for some of the products I want to use in Poser. That will also be fine.

Online Now!

I think there will be problems if you move the default runtime after installing.

You can have multiple runtimes from Poser 5 and up, and any extra runtimes you create can be moved. You'll just have to attach the runtime again, or Poser won't be able to find it.

Mostly, Poser is pretty forgiving about file locations. For awhile, they were putting clothing in the Props folder, even if was a figure.

hborre ( ) posted Wed, 19 May 2021 at 6:20 PM

Poser's default runtime should never be moved nor overwritten with any other runtime folder, it is a sure way to break the program. Python Scripts should always be placed into the default runtime unless otherwise instructed not to do so by its vendor or creator, i.e., install anywhere and use the Run Python command under files.

Torquinox ( ) posted Wed, 19 May 2021 at 6:47 PM

Yes, I saw that. Thank you. I put the directory back right away and everything was fine. Good to know about Python scripts, multiple runtimes, file locations and more.

If I may say, I think the good news in the first paragraph is a lot more important here. I doubt many people would move the default runtime just to see if that would work.
