Subject: The External Library Setup And Poser 12

Miss B ( ) posted Sun, 06 June 2021 at 2:09 PM ยท edited Wed, 11 December 2024 at 5:57 PM

I have been using the External Library setup in my browser with P11 for years, and I would like to do the same with P12, but I don't recall if anyone has posted about it.

Does anyone know for sure if it will work, and what change(s) I'd have to make to the link I'd place in my browser to be able to see it.

Yes, that's the one I've been using with Poser 11 for years, but I wasn't sure if it would work with Poser 12.

As it turns out, I can see P11, P12, and the Runtime I use when beta testing, so it's OK. I just wasn't sure if there would be a newer link for P12, but obviously it's not necessary. I just had to close the Library "window", which allowed me to set up the P12 UI as I have it set up in P11. So I'm a happy camper. ๐Ÿ™‚

Miss B - Thanks for replying to RedPhantom's response. Up through P11, I had to change an entry in the Poser.ini file to trigger the external library. That entry isn't available in the P12.ini; thus I (incorrectly) assumed the external library option was no longer available. I submitted a support ticket when a P12 update hosed up the Poser library, and mentioned the external library option no longer being available. Support's response said they'd fix the library issue (which to date they haven't) but did not mention the external library option is still available.

For P11, I have the external library coordinates plugged into Microsoft Edge, which is the only thing I use that browser for on my graphics computer. Following you advice, I found it works great on P12 as well and eliminated one of my biggest frustrations with the new veesion. Thanks for asking about something I missed.

Well, as it turns out, you're correct about the necessary phrase not being in P12's Poser.ini file, BUT what I did was look for the phrase just above it in the P11 Poser.ini, and when I found it in the P12 Poser.ini file, I added that phrase to that file. Whether that did the trick or not, I'm not sure.

The only thing I still find frustrating is . . . with P11, I made a copy of the LibraryPrefs.xml file opened it in a plain text editor (not any version of Notepad) so I could set up how I want to see the list of Runtimes in the External Library. It worked fine in P11, but P12 keeps listing two folders I don't use, and which are empty. I would love to figure out how to change their settings so I don't have to see them anymore. I'll have to keep playing with it until I can figure it out.

As long as I save a copy of the original files I can play with them, so that if I screw something up, I can just go back to the original files. Not a good idea to play with a file without a copy of the original . . . just in case.

Not sure whether this helps, but I didn't add anything to my Poser 12 .ini file and didn't change the .xml file. I simply closed the Poser Library (as you recommended) and opened my Edge browser with the coordinates RedPhantom noted. In Edge (P12), my libraries show exactly what I had in P11 plus everything I added in P12. I didn't edit my LibraryPrefs.xml file. All-in-all, I'm guessing the P11 external library coordinates exist in P12, even though the P12.ini file doesn't tell one how to find them.

I wonder: if one can browse to an internal URL to get the content of the library, that means that somewhere in the computer, there is a dedicated program that handles this URL. When does it load? is it still available when Poser is closed? Because there are chances that it reads the XML file only while loading.

No there is not a dedicated separate server - it's poser.exe that just listens on a port like any other application can do.

Renderosity forum reply notifications are wonky. If I read a follow-up in a thread, but I don't myself reply, then notifications no longer happen AT ALL on that thread. So if I seem to be ignoring a question, that's why. (Updated September 23, 2019)

I have the same problem, I have not been able to edit the poser 12 library file manually as I used to do in poser 11, for some reason it doesnt work and that is very frustrating. Has anyone been able to fix it?
