Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 27 5:12 pm)
I know. Just strange that he's suddenly charging for ones he never posted there that used to be free at his site. Not that I'm judging mind you, daily bread and whatnot. I think the major thing is the site no longer being open. In typical Dodger fashion it says this...
W10 Pro, HP Envy X360 Laptop, Intel Core i7-10510U, NVIDIA GeForce MX250, Intel UHD, 16 GB DDR4-2400 SDRAM, 1 TB PCIe NVMe M.2 SSD
Mudbox 2022, Adobe PS CC, Poser Pro 11.3, Blender 2.9, Wings3D 2.2.5

Bummer. I always assumed he was retired or something considering how prolific he is. Thanks for the info Randym77.

If you're interested in his upcoming freebies, he's posting about them in the Star Trek thread at DAZ. (He's probably less fond of DAZ than even Renderosity, but the "Star Trek Builders Unite" thread is where Trek nerds hang out. That's why I'm there, even though I don't use Genesis.)
He's made versions of his Klingon figure to match all the different "races" we've seen in the Trek movies and series, and now he's making morphs from all kinds of SF properties. Dr. Who, Orville, Galaxy Quest, Babylon 5, etc. There's even a conehead and Marty the Martian. He's already posted the new Klingons to ShareCG and says he'll post the morphs when they're done.
I saw those. Not a hardcore Star Trek fan... I know, blasphemy right? I do very much enjoy the original series and the later stuff, and I've seen the films. I have an acquaintance that I play DnD with that is super into it, dressing up at conventions and whatnot.
Now if he'd start a Lovecraft bestiary, not entirely bowled over by Sixus' take on the mythos, that would be a different story, or maybe some more Gamma World things...

Occurs to me that, I imagine, he'd have to be pretty careful what intellectual properties he makes Poser figure's for... especially in a paid context.

I was pretty impressed when I saw that he had made some of the entities from Barlowe's Guide to Extraterrestrials... that was one of my prized art books when I was a kid.

Unless I misread it, in one of his posts where informed us of his fiscal conditions, he also noted he was "nearing" or "almost" 50. Still a "young (well, younger) buck" from my perspective.
Tempt the Hand of Fate and it'll give you the "finger"!

Yes! I loved that book, too. And I immediately recognized his models as being from that book.
I think intellectual property issues are the reason his Trek, Star Wars, Orville, etc. stuff are still freebies.
Looks like there's a freebie tug of war going on over at ShareCG between Dodger and Vanishingpoint lol. Good news for collectors obviously.

What's going on?
Dodger's stuff is listed in the Freebies section of VanishingPoint, but it's hosted at ShareCG. I assume for bandwidth reasons.
Oh. Lol. You certainly know your stuff on the content front Randym77. I haven't been over to VanishingPoint in a long time.

Hope the lad is doing OK. He's made some good stuff and I even bought some of it in the past.
Can't say I reckon much to his Dalek model, though. Not to toot me own horn - as it were - but mine are better. :D

Indeed Sam, this is true. He really knocks his figures out, which has the consequence of not having a lot of morphs or features, expressions. Sometimes when I take a look at his humanoid figures the topology looks like he shrink wrapped a M4 body, made some shape changes and threw a stripped out daz skeleton in there and sculpted a face. The topology looks like a body suit. Not saying he did, he obviously rigs his non humanoid creatures so... I'll leave any further critique at that.
But conversely, he's Dodger; incredibly prolific, like mindblowingly so... corners are cut to get the vision out there. Whereas I'm just some dude who is lucky if he has the time or attention span enough to put out a couple humble freebies a year.

Just because I like mysteries... Michael 4, Dodger's Orc overlapped. See anything strange about both of their thumbs? Probably just my imagination, I won't show other comparisons. Nothing wrong with making conforming clothes based on a Daz figure so same thing basically if so.

I've seen alot of other artists do it. Even figures for sale here in the marketplace ;)
Christ, oskarsson's standalones that were for sale here, or are, were obviously daz figure retopos with transferred skeletons. In so much that he would state how well daz figure poses would transfer to his figures.

Interesting you see the irony Boni... I don't want to be a trouble maker anymore today. It's non productive, sorry I even mentioned it. I value the artist's I mentioned, support their work, and value my rendo membership. Nuff said.

Dodger's making a TON of morphs for his Klingon figure. It's truly amazing. Dr. Who, Babylon 5, Star Wars, Spaceballs. He says he'll do some female versions for Elizabeth.
It will probably have to be dynamic clothes for them, though. He's made some outfits, but I can't imagine making costumes for all the morphs he's creating.

I have that book, and Expedition (which is my favorite from Barlowe). Both of them are sitting six feet away from me on a bookshelf. I did not know he did that... now I'm going to have to go look.
Hadn't heard from that dweeb in ages. I live near Portland (and IIRC Dodger lives in Portland Metro) - I know his RL name and we're connected on LinkedIn; I'll see if I can hunt him down. The tech industry around here is hiring pretty well (though mostly startups at the moment - though Intel might still have the CG artist/developer shop at the Jones Farm site in Hillsboro.

Is there something in the water round Portland? There's a lot of techie activity in the area; a lot of guitar effects people in that area, as well as computer related folks.
Coppula eam se non posit acceptera jocularum.
Intel has a massive chip fab and R&D facility in Hillsboro (the "Nehalem" product was built here - it's named after the river that incidentally flows past my backyard.) Nike HQ is in Beaverton. Genentech has a huge factory in Hillsboro, as well as First Solar, and more than a few score tech complexes. Google and Facebook have massive datacenters in The Dalles and Prineville, respectively. Puppet, New Relic, Tripwire, and a shedload of other big-names-in-IT startups and corps reside in Portland proper (though most are doing WFH still, because of certain, ah, political activities of late.) I only scratched the surface - the local boosters call it the "Silicon Forest" - a hidden gem of sorts for someone in tech.
Intel drew me out this way years ago as part of their R&D (until the R&D group I was working in died off a few years afterwards), and now I'll likely die of old age here (seriously, it's that gorgeous). It was (and in some aspects still is) like Silicon Valley, but without the snobbery, traffic snarls, and the overpriced real estate.
IIRC Dodger did freelance gigs last I checked, and I know he's got the chops, so I don't think it'll take him too long to get a new hookup.
Yeah, he's a good bloke. Wish he'd sort out his bloody Daleks, though. :D

Veteran freebie figure creator Dodger's site is no longer up. His Classic 1E DnD figure freebies are now appearing as for sale items on ShareCG. While the, for a very long time free, figures are reasonably priced now, a few bucks... I can't help but feel a bit sad about it. Hopefully he doesn't pop on here and call me an IDIOT for mentioning it (he comes off a little curmudgeonly?), but I doubt it. He doesn't seem overly fond of Rendo.
Thought maybe someone who collects his models might find this development interesting. I really like his classic pig faced orc figure, glad I grabbed it before this development. Makes me wonder if all of his work is strictly sale items from now on. Guess I can't blame him, guy has done a tremendous amount of work over the years, peculiar though.
