Subject: how to export render settings ?

ghostship2 ( ) posted Mon, 26 July 2021 at 10:42 PM · edited Wed, 02 October 2024 at 4:22 AM

I've been tasked with making some mats and lights for the Rendo Marketplace. They also want some render setting presets. I have looked though the manual and can't find any reference to exporting render setting presets. I need some help at this point. lol

/Users/AppData/Roaming/Poser Pro/11/RenderPresets/

They're .prp files. This is where my render presets are stored in 11... I'm assuming this is where they would be in 12 too. Just create a preset with a distinctive name and run a search on your machine, it'll point you to the folder.

I imagine that any .prp you plop in that folder will show up in the renderer preset dropdown.

There's also a render preset folder in prefs of the main installation filled with Superfly presets that ship with Poser

On my Win7 machine the P12 render presets are at C:\Users\Bruce\AppData\Roaming\Poser\12\RenderPresets

That's exactly where I have them on my Win10 Pro laptop as well.

In fact, that's more, or less, where my RenderPresets folder is for Poser 11, except the final 3 subfolders are Poser Pro>11>RenderPresets.

I'm confused, didn't I say that in the first post?

ghostship2 ( ) posted Tue, 27 July 2021 at 10:31 AM

Thanks guys. This idea of users having to mess with their preffs folder is not a good idea. I wasn't the one who came up with the idea of including render presets with my marketplace item. I'll have to let Jenn know my reservations about this.

There's been render presets for the sketch renderer shared in a similar fashion. I would think it's generally safe to put files in the AppData/RenderPresets folder. Messing around in the main runtime prefs folder I'm not so sure about. I would say they're just reference files though, similar to how any library/textures/geometries file would work. I can understand your reservations. Some people don't like to mess with Poser files, some do. I would imagine that direct reps of Poser Software wouldn't ask you to do something that would be harmful.

primorge ( ) posted Tue, 27 July 2021 at 10:53 AM

The extent of your involvement with editing of files or placing of files would be copying the relevant prps and handing them over to the Rendo testing team. Hardly ominous ;)

primorge ( ) posted Tue, 27 July 2021 at 11:05 AM · edited Tue, 27 July 2021 at 11:12 AM

Judging by the sound of your product the files bundled in your Runtime would be mt5, mc6, lt2 files in their relevant library folders. And a RenderPresets folder, outside of the libraries folder in the Runtime for the presets. Installation of the RenderPresets files would be covered in the product docs at the direction of Renderosity's installation recommendations. I'm just guessing though.

Here's a Firefly preset exporter created by Structure, no reason why it couldn't be used for Superfly I'd bet... might not be compatible with Poser 12 though.

I'm starting to think this guy has me blocked lol.

Something like Structure's script should be in Poser already at this point. Seeing that 12 is still in development maybe they could tack it on or include it in the Python utilities ;)

Rhia474 ( ) posted Tue, 27 July 2021 at 12:22 PM

Or you can do what some vendors did for years, include a jpg of your render settings or add to a pdf, and let the user manually input and save. I have a ton of those for Firefly and Superfly, just named them after the creator.

@primorge nope you aren't blocked. lol I've just been busy with s**t. a lot on my plate.

There is also a free script that lets you load the Poser Sketch Designer presets, "Sketch Presets Manager for Poser", from any folder. Which means you can have visual previews rather than just a name on a list. But this is based on Structure's script, which means it had to be non-commercial use. Which means no Marketplace re-use - unless he gives permission.

I was curious about that license. Restricting the output of a script is a little strange. I wonder why Structure chose that license? In any event, Structure seems like a pleasant enough fellow, and he's part of the renderosity team (I guess you'd say)... I imagine he'd approve such a usage if Ghostship were to ask. I still think simply copying the prps from the folder would be sufficient. It does hint that a future update of Poser might include a built in functionality though, it would follow if they wanted render settings. Or it could be simply as Rhia stated... the old include a screen cap method.

Speaking of sketch designer presets... years ago there was a freebie uploaded here that contained a ton of SD presets. I can't seem to find it anymore. Anyone know the whereabouts? Or if it's still buried in the freebies somewhere? Maybe I'm thinking of a product. Must have been circa Poser 7...

Here's a preset distribution that I found here...

It might be handy to have a Render Settings icon on the library palette, too, instead of just in the Render Settings menu.
