Subject: Is there a Mac utility for converting .hdr files to IBL?

Hi peeps, I recently bought a nice pack of HDRI images from Dreamlight but am frustrated as Snarlygribbly's EZDome script doesn't recognize .hdr files, only .ibl formats, which means I have to load Bagginsbill's EnvSphere into the Pose Room, then go into the Material Room to load the .hdr file. I would much rather be able to convert the .hdr files to .ibl, since EZDome has the shadowcatcher feature, whereas the other process is more involved. I have not yet been able to find a Mac utility to do the conversions....any of you know of something like that out there? Thanks in advance!

The program sIBL-Edit would be the software of choice for converting HDR files but, unfortunately, it is only available for Windows and Linux. However, you should be able to create your own within EZDome unless that feature is lacking in the MAC version. I have incorporated plenty of HDR images in EZDome with no problems whatsoever. If you look on the Library tab towards the bottom, there should be two buttons: New and New+. Those are the features that help you create sIBLs for EZDome.

This is what I have with my Windows version of EZDome:

Right, Hborre, I have that in EZDome as well, but does it actually convert .hdr files to sIBLs? That's what I need to know, and which button do I click on, New, or *New+"? Thank you in advance.

Unfortunately, EZDome will not actually create a physical sIBL, it will create a preset that is stored and used in the app. To create a new preset from scratch, select the New button. The New+ will create a preset with the existing image and settings that appear in the app automatically or from an imported sIBL. As I mentioned in the previous post, the only software that can convert an actual HDR to sIBL is sIBL-Edit which I use on a regular basis. It gives you greater control over exposure settings on each aspect of the image. But, unfortunately, it is only available for Windows and Linux and I am not aware of any other software for MAC. Again, if you are only interested in using the HDRIs in EZDome then the New button is the way to go on the app.

Hborre, thank you for that explanation! I'll give it a try and see what happens. I know about sIBL-Edit, but as you pointed out, there's not a Mac-compatible version available, so I have to find a workaround that does it for me in Poser.

I’m happy to report s-IBL can work on a Mac with WineHQ installed. It will also open .exe iruntime nstallers on a Mac if you were curios. It’s also how I got the Wilddial genesis 3 to poser converter to work.
