Subject: Super Parenting more than one item at a time?

RAMWorks ( ) posted Wed, 11 August 2021 at 3:59 PM · edited Sun, 22 December 2024 at 2:32 PM

Hi,

Poser 11 question

I want two items to load together as a smart prop. How does one save this out so it works properly? I have a double earring set for L'Homme, the EarDob loads parented but the loops load to the bottom of the Hierarchy editor unparented. What I would like is a way to select the subsets and then have them load parented where they should be.

If that's possible!

Thanks so much Richard

Someone else might come up with a different solution. In the Hierarchy Editor, select the loops, and if you are on a PC, right-click your mouse and reparent the loops to the appropriate location (head, ears?). The props will change position within the hierarchy. Resave the props, making sure that the smart prop dialogue appears during the process.

Hi,

Yes, they are parented properly but there seems to be a limitation with the save options. If you don't select any subsets you will get an option to have it smart parented to the figure but this won't work if you have two selected in the hierarchy editor, it will only save the first one selected. So you then push the subsets button and then proceed like that but the option to super parent to the figure doesn't work correctly, both are saved together, both are loaded together but ONE will be parented and the other will be at the bottom of the hierarchy panel, unparented! So if the end user then moves the figures head or body the unparented, of course, will not follow along.

You're right, the library interface only allows you to save a single parented prop, or a set of props, but not a set which is also parented.

It's been achievable by hacking for a long time. There may be a method in newer Poser versions, but the only way I know is to save the set, then edit the PP2 file to add the parenting information by hand. If nobody comes up with a more user-friendly procedure I can look up the details.

Why not both items as a single object smart prop? Or 2 items as 2 smart props?

Here's the relevant entries in a pp2 to subset parenting...

So the smartparent for the loops would be whatever the internal name is for the desired parent, rather than UNIVERSE. You can find out the internal name exactly in the actor properties tab.

If you need a picture of the relevant entries in a pp2, I'll post it later.

Got it done, right now I'm struggling with getting necklaces parented to the right body part so they don't go sinking in to the body when posed. So far Chest seems best! These are 4 necklaces I made for Dusk 1 and 2 as well as L'Homme so gotta get this figured out. Dusk is my main priority right now, L'Homme is about finished and waiting on the preliminary rigging for Dusk 2 before I can begin setting all the Rings&Things properly for him!
