Subject: How to make a curved wall

ssmith ( ) posted Thu, 23 September 2021 at 1:00 PM · edited Wed, 29 January 2025 at 11:45 AM

All,

I'm trying to create an airplane interior.  I can use downloaded .obj files for the seats etc.  However, for the outer portion of the plane I'm having a little difficulty.  The hallow tube works in a pinch.  But one can make it transparent.  Is there a way to make a half hallow or cylinder or tube?

Also, dljNKCTL2ZjMH09dYHLOOOh86WkAdHvwAliE2zUf.pnghow do I place transparent windows into the tube?

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Sorry, this sentence "But one can make it transparent." should read one can't make it transparent without making the entire tube transparent.

Quick and dirty Poser method without using modeling software:

Open Grouping Tool with your tube selected.

Add a New Group and name it. Window for instance. Select the polygons where you want your window to be. Add the corresponding polys on the inside of the tube as well.

Assign a new Material to your Window group. Call it glass.

Close the Grouping Tool.

Look in the Materials Tab and you will see that your tube now has a new material slot called Glass. Transparency goes here.

This is off the top of my head as Poser isn't on this particular machine. This is not a perfect method as it won't leave a nice finished edge like you can do with modeling software but it is fast and doesn't screw up any uvmapping on the untouched tube.

Also, if the tube is uvmapped and you had a template of the cylinder, you could make a transmap for half the tube.  If you want more info on this, let me know.
