Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 18 10:25 pm)
What hair set did you use for her "mane"? I'm always curious to learn what other people employ.Melody as Lt. M'Ress again. It's the Poserworld dress, which is more authentic but not as well made. I should probably do a better job of blending the pads in with the palm texture. I did it via Photoshop, since I have never figured out how overlays work in Firefly.
Tempt the Hand of Fate and it'll give you the "finger"!

All the layers and poufs and ruffles and lacing. Most new dresses are not that elaborate. Heck, it's hard to find a dress with sleeves these days. Perhaps because so much clothing is dynamic/dForce; I gather it's more difficult to add that kind of detail to a dynamic dress. Don't get me wrong, I love dynamic clothes, but it seems like it tends to be simpler.
Ok, I know what you mean. Even that ^ dress only has detached sleeves, I filled in the gap with a bolero jacket I'm working on.
As for the difference between conforming and dynamic clothing I hear you, I like comparing it to the difference between outfits in anime/manga art and there low budget cosplay.
Sounds like you and I like similar outfit complexity. :)My galleries
I really dislike those detached sleeves that are so popular in Poser-dom. Is it because shoulders are hard to conform or something? I just can't imagine wearing a dress with detached sleeves. How they they stay up?
I think my ideal outfit would be a combination of dynamic and conforming. This outfit (by Hollywood costume designer Robert Blackman), for example. The boots and jumpsuit would be better conforming, but the cape (attached to the wrists) and maybe the sleeves would be better as dynamic. I have no idea if it's possible to do that. I've seen some conforming dresses where the skirt is dynamic, but that's about it.

There's a lot of complex things going on in the shoulder/collar region of Poser figures, particularly JCMs and JCMs effecting multiple simultaneous rotations. I wouldn't be surprised if some cut corners to avoid messing with that.
I had some corespondents with a couple of the big names in Aiko3's content a few years ago, one of them stated that a full dress (long, sleeved, puffs, frills, lace, etc.) could take 2-4 times as long to create as something simpler and in most cases they took the shorter route to increase product turn out. I can't fault them trying to making a living.
I don't know much about Poser's dynamics, but with dForce most items are conforming, that way you can do a quick drape after posing or use an animation for a more complex drape. You can still use it on a static props as well. dForce also converts each mat zone into a different dynamic zone allowing for lots of control over how different part of the same item drape (or don't drape). With the outfit in the image
randym77 referenced I'll be able to drape just the long lace cuffs at the end of the sleeves if I need to.

With Poser's dynamics, you can set up different dynamic groups to control the way different parts behave, so it can look like different types of fabric. You can also drape parts of conforming clothing. The problem with that is you need to set up each body part separately. Poser also doesn't do well with layers on the same object. On rendym77's dress, the overskirt would need to be a separate item as well as the bodice and there might be issues with the laces, depending on how they were made. I have done dynamic laces that would so they can be done, but they have to be all one piece.

Loaded V4 (with Olivia applied) and AIko side by side and spent a few hours messing with Aiko's morphs tell I had a good approximation I was happy with, then ran the textures through Texture Convertor 2 and did some touch-ups on them.Wow, neat trick. How did you manage that?

@ghostship2 Its Matilda Hair from DAZ.

That is a phenomenally nice Bob hair piece though. Getting it into Poser as a prop, copying over the morphs, and fitting it aren't a gigantic issue but man that's a steep price tag. Very high quality though. I'll have to keep an eye on that maybe eventually will go on sale hopefully. Thanks for the heads up on that.
Inspired by all the great images here I finally rendered A3 in Superfly. This is one of my favorite A3 characters, Lany run through EZSkin. Materials and lights by ghostship2.

Another of Aiko4 with a lot of realism dialed in.
Mixed ancestry, brown eyes and hair from her mother's side. She likes to dance in the nude. Very serious.
