Subject: Realistic shaders for V4 & M4 Superfly?

JAFO ( ) posted Mon, 24 January 2022 at 4:12 AM · edited Wed, 04 December 2024 at 3:00 AM

Can anyone recommend a good set of realistic Superfly materials for V4 & M4 that are reasonably priced? While there are a few beautiful promo renders in the marketplace, I cant find anything that comes anywhere near what I'm looking for, its hard to tell what is a render and what has been enhanced with some kinda foo-foo magic post effect. I do lengthy animations and really need shaders  that render well with no need for enhancement in post.

I've tried EZskin to enhance standard materials, and while I can get improved results, they're still lacking. .. Any recommendation would be greatly appreciated.

What do you mean by 'lacking'?  Some users have been complaining about the specular values in EZSkin 3 but there are workarounds.  There are some older texture maps when enhanced will do a superior job.  However, there isn't a one-fits-all solution without experimenting first; a skin shader that looks good in a sunlit environment may not look good in a nighttime setting.  The same can be said about what type of shot you will be using in your animation, portrait closeups, or medium- to long-range shots.  Your requirements and shader setup will be different.

Thanks for your reply hbore. My scenes tend to be late evening  to night-time, with the bulk of the lighting being HDRI, usually night skies with a low intensity point or mesh light (shadow disabled) somewhere off camera in the direction of main source providing a hint of specular highlight(as you probably know SSS is pointless in low-light environments without a little 'boost',and rim-lighting doesn't make sense in these environments). I'm using Poser12 Optix now, previously Vray in Max. I've always wanted to create content exclusively in Poser, but before Optix  5-10,000 frame animation was totally insane. Does EZSkin 3 work with P12? Most of the Python scripts I've tried wont run in P12, I've only been running P12 about a month, and must confess I've been out of the loop for quite some time....Life y'know . It's a steep hill to climb but I'll eventually get there, one small step at a time....

Wish they gave more time for edits....My Shots usually start out medium to long range, being gradually drawn in to up-close( gotta show off all that work that went into creating a detailed set)

You are correct, most Python scripts that worked in P11 will no longer work P12.  There is a newer version of EZSkin 3 that works with P12 and it can be found here.  Check out the thread on the P12 PrincipledBSDF shader node, excellent examples of using Cycles for the Superfly render engine.
