Subject: Rendering animation movies

I am after the procedure to remove backgrounds from animation movies in Poser pro 11.  The reason is I want to composite Poser movies within third party programs.  I have seen it done but cannot duplicate it so asking for help.  Note: I know the procedure for still images but it is different when using various CODECs.

The current Poser manual has some information on alphas in video renders:

"AVI movies are rendered in 32-bit color, which by default includes an alpha channel (mask) for each frame. This can aid in compositing the animation with other movie footage. QuickTime movies can also contain an alpha channel if set to render at millions of colors."

It sounds like you have the third party video-editing program access the alpha channel to mask, rather than do anything in Poser (other than render to 32-bit color / millions of colors).

My method has been to color the background green and remove it as i would a green screen in the other programs.  More options in movie rendering would be helpful.  An animated depth map would be useful.

When you render to a Codec you will loss the Alpha channel as a compressed movie file has no need for.  In normal movie making the making of a movie file AVI/ / WMA /MP4 etc. is the final step prior to distribution.  So your options are render to frames and export with the Alpha channel anc combine together in your movie editing program OR use a Blue/Green Background and Chroma Key it out in your movie editing program.
