Subject: How do I find uploaded files

ssmith ( ) posted Tue, 15 February 2022 at 3:44 PM · edited Sun, 02 February 2025 at 1:48 PM

Hello All,

I've got another question for you. Sometimes when I upload a new model to Poser 11 I can't find it in my search.  I try the name of the item I'm looking for say for example "tank." If that doesn't work, I search for the programmer's name and finally the first few letters of the download folder.  Is there an easy way to find recently uploaded models?

Thanks in advance.

I am quite not sure what you're asking.  Are you completely referring to downloading content into P11?  The terms download and upload have different meanings and you may be using them incorrectly.

I still get thrown when I point Poser's external library at an un-zipped down-load, but item does not appear where expected.

Assuming the 'run-time' is correctly organised, may be because some 'objects' land in  'props' library as PP2, while others land in 'characters' as CR2.

FWIW, I find library UI exasperating at best, and infuriating when run-time of interest is hung off very bottom of list, in teeny-tiny font, with scroll-bar shrinking to a whisker...

ATM, with the OP online, there has been no response or elaboration on the problem.  There is simply not enough information to go on to offer a comprehensive solution.

Sorry for the confusion.  I talking about models that I purchase or download from sites like Renderosity.  I then upload those to my Poser 11 program.  I frequently find it difficult to find these models in my Poser 11 program.  I will refresh folders and even restart the program to make sure all folders are current, but I still sometimes can't find the new model in my Poser library.  Are there any easy ways to find new content?

Upload to Poser is an incorrect term, you are installing your content into Poser; upload is the complete opposite of download, you would be uploading your files to a server, cloud, storage, or website.  It is proper protocol to use the correct terminology to convey exactly what you mean.

Anyway, what type of model are you attempting to install into Poser?  Is it Poser content you've downloaded from a site or a model that is not exclusive to Poser?  Everything depends on the type of content packaged within the zip file.  If it is exclusive to Poser then the zip file should have everything separated into the necessary folder hierarchy for Poser to immediately reveal it in its library.  If it is not for Poser then we are dealing with a different file format that may need to be imported into Poser.  There is a difference.

How are you installing your content?  Do you have single or multiple Runtime folders?  Do you have a link for one of the files you've downloaded?  This will help us identify what type of content you have and exactly where to find it.  And, how proficient are you with Poser?  This is important because we need to know how technical we can get in explaining details.

See my response at 1:42 pm.  Does that help?

The best way to install Poser content is to use the "Install from zip archive ..." command on the File menu. If the zip file is not properly formatted it will normally complain that the file isn't in the expected format. It also makes sure that the bit land in the appropriate folders in the runtime you choose. After installing any new content you'll probably need to either restart Poser or refresh the library to insure that the new items show up.

Alternatively if this is content you've purchased from the store it will show up in the purchase tab of the library. Where you can install it directly into the Purchases runtime library with one click. Again you may need to refresh the library for new content to be searchable.
