Subject: renderin outside my computer

shante ( ) posted Wed, 23 February 2022 at 5:07 PM · edited Sun, 22 December 2024 at 8:40 PM

sorry having problems with keyboard of my dying laptop. 2 years ago my rendering macbook lost the high res rendering function of its dual processor. i could set the scenes up but could not render. every attempt to do so made the processor reboot poser and/or the computer. my question is is there a way to set up the the file and render it on another properly working computer without transferring resources?

If they are networked together, you can use the queue manager. You’ll need to install the same version of the QM as poser and make sure the QM on your poser computer is set to send jobs to network and the other computer has it set to accept jobs. Both computers need to be connected the whole time.

I would say:

- check that there is enough free place on your remote computer

- check the queue manager's version with its "About" dialog box: it should be exactly the same number as your Poser version, all the digits must be the same. If it's not the case, better to uninstall it and install the exactly same version.

@shante:     Both computers need to be in the same network;  this means the Cat (aethernet) cables are plugged into the same router (or network switch).  If the router/modem your internet service provided doesn't have an available aethernet (Cat cable) port, you can connect the computers to an unmanaged network switch (they're not expensive), then connect the switch to the router.

Along with the P12 installer, you should also have a Queue Manager installer.  If the master computer is Mac and the slave is Windows (or vice versa), you'll need to download the Queue installer for the slave's OS.  Run the Queue Manager installer -not the Poser installer- on the second (slave) machine, the one which you intend to use for rendering.

The first time you launch Queue, your firewall will challenge you for permission for Queue;  be sure to allow it.  The first time you send a render job from your master machine (the one with Poser installed) to the slave/rendercow/remote, the slave's firewall will challenge you for permission for FFRender64;  be sure to allow it.  You can install Queue on as many computers as you want.

THANKS FOR THE DIAGRAM.....YOU WOULD THINK IT FOOL PROOF....but then I'll try it and......?!

So in brief how does the slave render computer know what to use by way of resources. I thought Poser gathers all resources in an image and interpolates or processes them into the final picture (or something like that!)  :(

A few weeks ago I went to pick up a new purchase from an FFL and got lost on the way there....15 minutes from my condo. The traffic was horrible and I can't se too good anymore and I sort of get anxiety attacks when I feel out of control and that seems all the time lately!

It was raining, my windows got fogged up because i forgot to turn on my defoggers and my wiper blades were not doing their job (forgot to replace them with the new ones sitting in their bag on my passenger seat!. It was dark and the rain was causing circles of confusion for me and so many damn things were going on you would think I was making it all up but I am not. Anyway I was less than a block from the turn-off into my condo complex and the panic attack overwhelmed me so badly I  could not figure out where I was. I had to exit my car and look around in the rain through the traffic to get my bearings. Imagine how stupid I felt when I saw the big white sign at the entrance of my complex about 60 feet ahead of me!

That is what I have to deal with every day it seems so every thing even this it seems is a blt for me to squeak through!  :(

THANKS ALL.

No need to install any runtime or content on the slave computer(s);  when the master computer sends a render job off to the network, it sends the selected frame of the scene, along with all OBJs and texturing JPGs.  So, the master machine's Queue supplies everything needed to the slave PC's Queue.  When the slave's FFRender64 finishes the render, it returns the result -including any separate passes needed- to the master.

P.S.     The colored lines in my diagram represent Cat6+ (aethernet) cables.

I NOTICED YOU HAVE TWO SLAVES DO THEY NEED EACH OTHER TO DO THE JOB AND HOW DO THEY DIVIDE THE TASKS?

You do not need 2 slaves. That was only to show you can have more than one. You can have 2 if you have them. You can have only one.

OK COOL THANK YOU VERY MUCH

Yeah, what @RedPhantom said;  I was only showing that you can use more than one, as many as you can scrounge together.  If doing a single render, only one remote (aka "slave") will be engaged.  Multiple remotes are great if you're running a batch list of promo renders, or if you're rendering an animation.  A singleton render will *not* be distributed among multiple slaves;  I have asked for this capability to be added since Poser Pro 2010.

Poser generates a 'temporary' PZ3, sends a big 'sorta-OBJ' file and all textures etc to the remote 'Box'. It skips files 'Box' already has...

Note a complex scene, such as my recent 'Yay !', with four (4) well-behaved (!!) FBX Anime imports plus LaF in casual/combats, may take almost five minutes between setting the render image destination and anything obvious happening. Much, much admin in progress...

So, like says on cover of 'Hitch-Hikers Guide', Don't Panic !!
