Subject: Poser 12 script to convert PoserSurface nodes to PhysicalSurface nodes

VedaDalsette ( ) posted Fri, 25 February 2022 at 12:56 PM · edited Tue, 19 November 2024 at 8:43 AM

Is there a Poser 12 script (or Poser 11 script) that can change an object's PoserSurface nodes to PhysicalSurface nodes with the corresponding values intact AND can join the mat nodes to their corresponding PhysicalSurface attributes?

I realize this may not work for complex mats.

Thanks.

(I also put this in the Poser Python forum. I wasn't sure which forum was best for this question.)

AFAIK, no script exists ATM.  It would be convenient except, IMHO, you would be forced to check each material zone for accuracy between conversions and whether the reconstruction would work correctly or not.  I rather do the work manually, that way I can double-check all the nodes and connections.  Besides, you can have a very bad, or non-conforming PoserSurface-based shader converted to a horrendous PhysicalSurface-based shader.  You also have some node arrangements with the PhysicalSurface node that simply will not look correctly when rendered in Superfly.

Thanks, hborre. I can see what you mean. It's just when an object's mats go on forever into Mat Scrollyland, it can be tedious doing it all individually.

The other day, I bought Stonemason's Chinatown on sale at the other place. It's one big duf that Ken's DUF Converter doesn't like.  However, it comes with multiple obj format files I can import into Poser. Cool. They each have mtl files, and I just had to do a text file Replace to change their drive paths to my path. The objects opened up fine with mats in Poser, but the normal and roughness texture maps weren't connected, because the mats were all PoserSurface. This is a case where a script would come in handy.

It just dawned on me that, in the instance I noted above, a script still wouldn't help, because the mtl files didn't include the normal or roughness files.

Oh, well, doesn't hurt to ask, I guess.
