Subject: Glaze over the eye and can't eliminate it

RAMWorks ( ) posted Fri, 18 March 2022 at 11:45 AM · edited Fri, 03 January 2025 at 9:52 AM

So finally back to working on my latest character, Jon for L'Homme.

I seem to have run into an issue though.  I can not eliminate this squarish glaze over the eye.  There are NO props turned on in the scene, there is only ONE LIGHT and all off the eye  settings including the Eye Surface have been gone over again and again and again and yet this strange glaze seems to be there.  Regardless of the camera used as well.  I've used the Face and Pose cams to get in close and yup, still there and with nothing turned on in the scene there shouldn't be anything but a reflection  from the one light source I have in the scene so not sure what's  going on

Thanks for any help you can offer

Richard

Have you tried to use the materials from ghostship2's free eye shaders? They are now my go-tos for all characters. I only keep the diffuse maps from eye materials for iris and pupil.

Also, try placing an environment into your scene.  Without something to reflect in the background, you will encounter a glaze appearance for the eyes.  Judging from your render, that's is what I am surmising, the eyes reflecting white.

The eyes are reflecting the all white environment exactly as they should. That's the thing about physical renders. You don't get to cheat. You have to either darken the scene behind the camera or make the eye's not shiny (which would probably still look wrong.) As hborre suggested it needs an environment.

Ah, OK.  I'll add in some stuff and see if that's better.  The empty scene, I THOUGHT I made it all dark but perhaps I was thinking of another WIP file.

Thanks so much!

Hah, I didn't even *think* about not having an environment. I don't start scenes without one any more, so...good that you find it.

Yes, he introduced me to his eye shaders back on the Smith Micro forum when I was having similar issues with my character's eyes.  They made such a huge difference, though I'm going to keep the background/environment issue in mind, as I often don't add that right away, unless I'm using BB's Environment Sphere.

While I didn't add anything to scene I did darken it, I didn't do that for this particular PZ3 so that's where that was coming from.  As hborre was right on!  All's well!

Thanks so much folks!
