Subject: Is there a node that I can use to make a transition?

RAMWorks ( ) posted Sun, 20 March 2022 at 9:10 AM · edited Fri, 03 January 2025 at 12:11 PM

Some that both use Poser and DAZ Studio will know what I'm talking about.  There are new products in DS that shows a way to add in two different skins to blend them together, same with hair.  I think that's doable here in Poser but not sure what node I would work with to accomplish this.  I would assume that there would be a black and white transition map used as a blend map but other than that I have no idea how to go about making this works.

Thanks so much for any help accomplishing this

Depending on your render engine, see the image below:

The first node for Firefly can also be used in Superfly.  The Fac channel in the second node controls the amount of blending between the two-color inputs.  Just be aware that the color chips in the Mix node will disappear when texture maps are plugged in whereas the color chips in the Blender node will remain active if you want to tint either one of the inputs.

I kinda figured that the Blender would be it but would I use a black and white map in this to create a smooth transition for what I'm after?

OK, going to be really up front about this so fasten your seat belts.... I'm working on some genital ideas for LH but shifting the skin tone darker to match the body skin tone leaves the head of the penis WAY to dark so I wanted to create a way to transition that area back to a lighter shade with out bogging down my pack with more maps than necessary!

That may sound about right if you are selectively changing the critical area with a secondary skin map of a lighter tone.  IIRC, the mask is plugged into the Blending channel with the blending value controlling the transition.  Your mask should be constructed as such that it won't leave any obvious, visible delineations.  From a distance, it won't be noticeable but closeups could present a challenge to hide.  Have your character wear protection, that will hide any 'imperfections'.

This is the map I created.  On the right track?  I'll make this open source so anyone can use it if they so wish!

I guess I did this right.  Here is the set up.  I had to create a partial map after all using my Gino genital maps and then desaturated it a bit to go more with Jon's tone and have it all hooked up like what you see below.  The render is perfect!

Now I have to figure out how to blend out there pubic area better.  It's really giving me fits.  I tried using the same set up I used for Gino but it's just not working out in that way.  As you can see it's quite obvious!
