Subject: Unable to import FBX from mocap software

evanhem ( ) posted Thu, 30 June 2022 at 10:38 AM · edited Sat, 28 December 2024 at 1:25 AM

Hello,

I use Brekel Body v3 software to capture a skeleton using Microsoft Kinect. I can export a BVH and successfully get it into Poser. However, I have heard that there are Euler angle singularities using BVH and that FBX is recommended. I have exported many different FBX files from Brekel, including 2019, 2014, Binary, ASCII, etc. Every time I try to load in the file, Poser takes a moment to think and then nothing happens. I have tried importing the FBX motion on to several characters and with nothing selected at all.

I am using 11.3.818.

Perhaps the tool here will help me? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TbHFxTPlelk

Poser accepts the motion as a BVH file.  Poser only understand FBX as a geometry file. That's my personal experience, anyway...

Thanks for the info.

Yet in the documentation it says animation keyframes should come in? Maybe it is unhappy that I am not supplying it with an attached geometry.

What version is the FBX file ? The older, the better, IMHO.

FWIW, I've been surprised by some FBX imports including animation. My yell as that 'Orc' charged across the screen seriously startled the duty-cat...

Here's an example of an ASCII FBX that I tried loading in

It should work, at least in Poser 12 it works. Can you use Blender or something? Make sure you include a skinned mesh, assign some material(s), and name the thing. I don't know this "Brekel" but see if it can add a basic skinned mesh for you before export, that would increase your chance of success!
