New Poser Users Help F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Jan 27 1:57 am)

For DSON, you will need to go to Daz. I don't believe they offer it for sale anymore. Even if you could find these programs, you will NOT be able to import and successfully use the latest Genesis model in Poser.
The schism between the two has become so vast, that neither side is willing to compromise to work together. It has become an "either this or that" issue. Such is life.

Today is the tomorrow you worried about yesterday
I have successfully imported Victoria 8 into P12 but as mentioned above the hassle outweighs its usefulness. Clothing, hair, and poses need to be treated the same way, and all the figures and objects will require extensive Material Room rework for the textures to work with either Firefly or Superfly. If you don't have DSON installed, you will need to explore another alternative for importation, perhaps FBX.
I am able to export Genesis 3 figures out of Daz as fbx files and import those into poser, but when I try with 8.1, I only get the eyelashes. I don't know if you're at all familiar with daz to be able to merge or remove the eyelashes. You also might try the bridge to Blender ( or whatever supported 3d app you're comfortable with) and then export from there, but I can't get the bridge to blender to work for me. You will probably lose the morphs (they'll be baked in) but https://www.renderosity.com/rr/mod/bcs/duf-morph-converter-for-poser-12/154285/ might help with that. I don't know. I don't own it.

This is the link for Willdial's program: https://www.renderosity.com/freestuff/items/76121.
At one time DSON Importer for Poser was free, that is how I got my copy. Then it became a purchase content item. Now, it is totally unavailable from DAZ 3D. I have not seen any other options that have been widely broadcasted in any thread. Those that have the ability to import the model, struggle with the process, and those that want to use it, don't have the means.
I routinely port DS props to Poser as OBJ, but I've despaired of getting figures across other than as 'store mannequins'.
Worse, DS' FBX export seems to misbehave more unpredictably than Poser's FBX import...
There is a route I've not tried, too busy with other notions: Mixamo has a semi-auto rigging facility, which you give a figure as OBJ, work through the long process of nudging its 'estimated' joint positions to compliance then exporting as FBX.
YMMV...
But then you have to re-rig clothing, hair, shoes, etc to dress the imported V8.1 if it initially imports correctly into Poser. I think the OP wants to convert the figure through the established conventional means already established with DSON importation. I'm sorry to say, she is too late coming into this process, and the necessary software to make this process work is no longer available from the source. It's one headache to get V 8.1 to work in P11, it's another headache to export her into P12 intact.
Um, probably a silly question, but does the Gen_X clothing rigging issue also apply to Poser 'dynamic' clothing which, IIRC, are pure, un-rigged OBJ ??
I've never used Poser 'dynamics', the work-flow makes my head hurt, but their potential...
What if you morphed a Poser figure to mostly match a Gen_ X imported as OBJ mannequin, then dynamically draped Poser figure with that OBJ ?
Would it not take textures of the Gen_X, plus conforming clothes of the base Poser figure ??
You mean you basically want to create a dynamic full bodysuit out of a genesis obj for one of Poser's figures? In theory, it should work. In practice, it would be difficult. You would have to get the poser figure lined up just right inside the genesis skin. The skin would be slightly larger so it might poke through any clothing unless it's also dynamic and set to collide with the skin. You also wouldn't be able to use any of Genesis's morphs, which I'd think would be part of why you'd want to use the figure.
