So does anyone have them yet? What kind of detail are we talking in the the high? I normally don't see too much different between lower and higher res except in extreme closeups like this one I did but even then the standard res map works okay for the most part. Thanks in advance.

I'd go with the Hires, you can always scale it down for non closeups but you will always have the detail when you need it.

I agree... High res is the way to go.

I know that pic! wink Coming to a calendar near you. wink Sorry that was off subject. GOM, Always go for the Hires version. Well always if it's done well to begin with. There are many high res images out there that no matter how large thay are they will always be bad. Yes you can scale them down (that's a good thing), but you really just end up with more detail to begin with in a higher res well done image and that just makes good sense. Though the price difference will be a deterrent to some, if you can purchase a good high res over a so-so low res. But look out for any high priced so-so high res where a good low res will do. So I also agree that a lores image , if done well can work just as well. I've done many images that are only 1024 pixels square that work as well if not better than some images that were 4000 pixels square. What am I really saying? The quality in the image will determaine the quality in the render no matter what size, but the more detail (higher res) usually the better. Sorry if I took the long way around just to say that. James

Thanks everyone. Part of the reason I am asking is because the hi res will never run on my puter as it stands anyway. Witht he Vicki 2 there was much more comparisson than the one shot with Michael and that is why I was asking.

Personally, I can't tell the difference in the renders. They're showing them side by side at DAZ and I can't see anything different between them. When Vicki's came out, I got the standard res ones. Not only were they almost half the price, but I heard some people complaining that the high res ones didn't render and caused crashes. I would suppose the high res ones would be good for very detailed work, but I think I'll just be getting the standard one. Melanie

GOM, I've found that it's the hires bump map that always chokes my puter. So I reduce that in size (say around 2000 instead of 4000 pixels) and that seems to make things go again. I think it may be due to Poser Pro Pack trying to convert the jpg bump map to a Poser bum. Don't know, but that's my experience. James

The biggest place I saw the different was in the eyebrows but it was such a small portion and all. I know it is the high res maps ... That is why I am in a quandry because if I buy them I won't be able to use them anyway until I get a new computer. Don't have pro pack either but it always does that on my puter.

Buy the hires, take em into photoshop and reduce the size. That way you'll have your own "lo0res" versions but you can go to hi when you need it.

However, even the standard res maps are pretty high res compared to some others that are around. Maybe my eyes aren't that great, but I still can't really tell the difference in the renders I've seen. One question, maybe I'm not logical enough to reason this out, but it seems to me that buying the high res textures (which are basically the same maps only bigger, right?), and making them smaller in Photoshop.....doesn't that just reduce them to the standard res size, therefore, costing you more for the ones you could have gotten for almost half the price? Don't mind me, I'm not the brightest bulb in the lamp here. I'm just rambling a bit......... Melanie

Melanie .. you are right but the option is there to have the detail if you get a better machine or need it in a scene etc. The other way the option isn't there. You can't get the detail back unfortunately. I saw more pics last night in the comparisson. Not sure why I couldn't see them before and there is definately more detail in the higher res map. Maybe one day I will have a puter that can run it S

I've only seen the difference in extreme close-ups. When you have your characters in a scene with other characters, it really doesn't matter. Oh well, this morning I bought the standard resolution and they're good enough for me. I think they're great. Melanie

jschoen, my Poser 4.03 crashes when I try to convert the Vicky hi-rez bumps from jpg. to bum. :( So I made a lo-rez bump map with Photoshop... Other than that, the hi-rez textures render very smooth :)
