Subject: FBX doesn't work? What am I doing wrong?

Joe@HFG ( ) posted Tue, 31 January 2023 at 11:33 PM · edited Fri, 10 January 2025 at 2:02 AM

Poser 11.3. I load up a figure, It works as described.
I want to get all my morphs and maybe enough rigging so I can use it Blender.

Export FBX from Poser (or Daz), Nothin' in Blender. Maybe some props that were attached.

I thought FBX was this universal format that had everything in it.

Where am I going wrong? Is there some "include all geometry and morphs"  checkbox I missed.

First before exporting on the Poser Figure menu set the skinning method to "Simple Bones Single Skin"

FIle > Export > FBX be sure to check off all the body parts you want to include.

Then be sure include geometry is selcted

Poser export options

This will get you in the right vicinity. You'll probably need to fix some bone orientations once imported into Blender..

Thanks. The dearth of Poser to Blender stuff has been startling. I'll come back when I've tried it.

ASCII FBX not supported. BY BLENDER!?!?!

I thought sure a human readable file format would work better.

If the FBX source uses generic 'open source' code, then Poser seems to have problems.

Worse, sub-version changes to that code may 'sub-vert' functionality. I've several similar figures re-rigged in succession by same artist using same work-flow, but only one group of them 'play nice' with Poser. Blender and/or its plug-in had up-dated after about six weeks, and their temporary 'sweet spot' was lost...

I've found Mixamo figures with earliest / oldest FBX version, anything 'Rigged/Exported from Maya', and Truebones' new ($$) 'PMX to FBX' utility usually work in Poser.

Note: As yet, T-bones' utility only sets hues, cannot call textures. Hand-loading is not a problem for a few materials, but gets silly beyond a dozen or so, especially if Diff complemented by bump, transparency, emission etc maps. And, d'uh, mind-blowing if dozens. I've sent the guy a link with better documentation of PMX texture-call storage, hope a #2.0 will arrive...
