Subject: HELP - TRANSPARENCY MAPS

Okay, I'm probably missing something really vital here but... I want to create a transparency map for my poser figures, I understand that you have to create a tif or a bmp file in 8 color greyscale. But what I want to know is where are the default textures stored for the bodies? i.e the unitard for the P4 female... I can find the object, but I can't find the texture... Am I looking for the right thing or could someone point me to the idiots guide to creating transparencies. many thx... DeLiNqUeNt

I think some of the texture templates (particularly for the clothes) are stored on the Poser contents CD

If you are working with Poser 4 or higher, then all the textures, bump maps, trans maps etc. are located in your Poser4/Runtime/Textures folder (or any subfolder thereof). Transparancy maps are greyscale (black=invisible, white=visible and shades of grey are partially transparent). They can be any image format type that poser accepts, including .jpg (which is what most people use because of file size). They do NOT have to be 8 bit files - they can be 24 bit, But poser will only use the luminance information for transparancy.

also you may want to invest some time in getting and learning UVmapper. the mapper is a free an easy program that will load an .obj file and give you a template so you can make your own textures.

The templates for all the default characters, and all the clothes that come with Poser, are on the Poser Content CD. You can use these templates in any paint program to create pretty much whatever you want. There are seam guides in the Textures section here that can help with creating very specific maps for the figures, and if you have Victoia or Michael, their maps, as well as the ones for their clothes, are free for download at Daz3D.com. Transparency maps, since they are only black and white, can actually be quite small- even .gifs will do. Just assign the file you created to be the transparency map in Render/Materials, then 'browse' for your file. Make sure to set the transparency maximum/minimum up to your desired level! If you don't. it won't work. I hope that helps!
