Subject: Looking for missing files... how to remove this pop up/identify the fail?

solstice69 ( ) posted Fri, 26 May 2023 at 1:37 AM · edited Thu, 23 January 2025 at 6:23 AM

Hi,

one thing that annoys me is that Poser (11 Pro) can't find some files sometimes and asks me where it's located when I open a scene.
I can click it away and tick "don't shjow again" but it pops up every time I load a scene and it ehances the time a scene needs to load fully.

I guess this comes from my previous work with a figure where I test different textures, morphs or whatever and I forgot to remove it.
In all cases, however, I was not able to locate the missing files. They are nowhere to be found in my Runtime folders.

Most often I am able to identify the figure that is affected but even then I am not able to find or remove the features that cause the error message.
Is there a way to find and remove these?

Any kind of help is greatly appreciated.

If you are using a PC, you may use Voidtools' excellent "Everything", a tool that, when it runs as a service, finds any file as fast as you can type.
when Poser (any version) asks you for a file, that's because its location changed. Once you know the new location, save the Poser file again.
I know that there are external tools, such as PoserFileEditor, but there are others, even in Rendo's store.

Hi,

thanks your tip. Unfortunately "Everything" found nothing on my drives... so I think I have to buy another software...

Thank you! I was too stingy to pay for this and solved the problem by addressing another texture file which I thought was close to the wanted, missing file (***limbs.jpg). It didn't change the figure. However, the Everything tool is amazing, I am sure it will help me a lot in the future! Thanks again!

Set your General Preferences for deep search especially if you have multiple runtime folders linked to your Library.  Sometimes, multiple texture files with the same name might throw off the search.  In addition, moving content around can disconnect the internal path and Poser start to complain.  It can easily be corrected by establishing the link again by place everything where they belong or editing the files to point in the right direction.

What is best with Everything is to set it up to run as a service, always present and up to date
