Subject: Render on network: Queue

Hello partners.

I have bought a new computer to improve render times.

The thing is, I start to accumulate computers at home and maybe I could give them a second life by creating a small render farm.

Rendering in Poser13 using Queue, what use is it, only to render animations in which each unit renders a frame, or can you also render an image distributed among all the units in the farm to improve render times?

Thank .

With the render queue you can send it an animation and it will split the frames to be done among the computers.  Or you can send individual scenes to the Queue Manager QM and it will send a scene to each computer (as it opens up) and have the remote computer render that image while the main computer is used to make new images.  So if you have say 10 scenes you can send them to the queue manager and as the remote computers become available to render the QM will send the image off.  The remote computers will send back a completed image as it is finished.

The hard choice is do you use your most powerful computer to make the images and send the renders out to the older/slower computers or use an older computer to make the scenes and have them rendered by the powerful machine?

If you want faster Poser renders you need to invest in an NVIDIA RTX card of some sort. Leaps and bounds faster than CPU rendering.

Hello Ghostship2.

That's right, I bought a new computer with an RTX 4090 that will calculate what it will enter in a maximum of 15 days. Currently, I work with an I7 6800K with a GTX 1080 which, surprise, works very well and does everything I put on it perfectly.

But the information that Richard60 gave me is very good. I will continue to use the I7 to model and configure scenes and the I9, through Queue, I will use it to render. I think it will be a very good development.

Can't beat a mega-GPU card, except on price.

A re-purposed network-render 'Box' running CPU-only jobs will get there in a reasonable time. And, given a 'high-end' GPU card may cost significantly more than the rest of PC, where's the break-even point ??

Actually, in Switzerland, an RTX 3070Ti starts around CHF520 (~ $580) and can climb up to more something like CHF900 (~ $1000) if not more.
a standard RTX3080 will compute slightly faster than my 2080Ti, and they start at CHF700 (~$780)
