Subject: Is Renderosity a scam?

Fresien ( ) posted Sat, 08 July 2023 at 11:08 AM · edited Sun, 24 November 2024 at 9:36 PM

Only now do I realize reading the forum that for the second time - I think - I have been scammed by this site. Today I bought an item from the marketplace, I went through the procedure, including authorizing the payment on PayPal, but for several hours in Order Details I kept seeing Order# xxx | Unpaid and (Pending Payment). It already happened to me in November 2022, but I thought I made a mistake and so I solved it by paying (again) for the items in the cart, exactly like today, and by magic, products can be downloaded.

Then I read the forum and I realize that it's actually a stupid site error (even quite frequent) and that it's the administrators who have to fix it after users report it, so they can get what they paid for.

How do you call it?

Just a few days ago, when I made a couple more purchases, everything went smoothly and the download was ready in seconds. But not today.

Renderosity is certainly not a scam. Errors happen when websites need to communicate with each other. PayPal also experiences times when payment notifications are delayed, or just do not send. If this ever happens, please post a thread here in the forum and we can manually confirm the payment for you and mark the order as paid.

I do not currently see any unpaid orders for you. If you can send me the order ID of the double payment, I will happily do that refund for you.

Well, since it happens often, maybe you could even warn users first, by inserting a message in the payment form or anything else that warns users of the possible problem. How does a person know before it happens?

In any case, I don't have any double payment IDs, of course. (I just found out that an item paid twice may not necessarily have two different IDs.) I only have one, but I took a screenshot where the item is purchased but still awaiting payment. How is it possible? This is the first time something like this has happened to me in all digital stores, including others that sell 3D stuff.

Oh, I almost forgot: it's obvious that you don't see unpaid orders, since as I specified, I paid it again.

I see 3 orders on your account and all are marked paid and available for download.

PayPal has problems out the wazoo regardless of which online store you're buying from - stuck/hanging authorizations, overriding shipping address with old addresses, taking weeks for refunds, mysteriously preventing orders, etc. It works fabulously most of the time, but those times when it doesn't work are really frustrating. That's a PayPal issue though. I despise scammers, and I have seen nothing "scammy" about Renderosity. Technical problems happen all the time online. It isn't appropriate to label Renderosity a "scam" because of honest technical problems that they'll happily remedy when advised of them. Whenever I've had a problem I message them, and they get it fixed in a reasonable time (a few days or less).

If you want scams, look at one of the other really, really, really, really, really big stores that sells Daz products, which will remain nameless here. Creating manipulative devices, using psychological warfare, exploiting customers' innumeracy, failing to deliver what was promised, encouraging multiple purchases of the same item, arbitrarily taking back "free gifts", offering daily "sales" whose pricing schemes require deep study to comprehend, refusing to allow customers to warn fellow customers of crappy/broken products with a ratings & review system, and censoring anyone who will tell others about this is the very core of their business model. I'll take an occasional PayPal blowout at an honest site over that black hole of business ethics any day.
