Subject: Rotation on 2 axes instead of 3

Romeo4755 ( ) posted Mon, 25 September 2023 at 5:34 AM · edited Sun, 19 January 2025 at 7:23 PM

Hello. Poser 2014

Many objects and props, when I import them into the scene, rotate in two dimensions instead of 3.  For example, I can rotate an object around Y_axis, but rotation in X and Y axis is the same.

Is there a way to fix it?

Thank you in advance for your support.

For example here I need to turn the white wall to be parallel to the window, but it won't rotate in this direction!3ATeJp2mh26J6bGwRssIMhFnIMrQxjOgFq4yhSqj.png

What method are you using? Are you trying to rotate it by dragging in the scene or with the parameter dials? If you are trying to do it in the scene, which tool are you using?

I always rotate by dials. And this situation keeps repeating in with most imported OBJ. In this case the wall is a primitive from the library.

I also save imported objects as props in the library and then load them from the library, but it is all the same, they still don't rotates in 3 dimensions.

If you rotate 2 axis to 90deg the third will appear to quit working. This is a "singularity" and it's a limitation of the Euler rotation system in Poser. Some people call this effect "gimbal lock"

If you use Posers direct Manipulation tool it can rotate through the singularity in most cases.

Thank you for this information , it is something new to me though in the case above I only needed to rotate around two axis and the remaining two worked the same.

It will try to use Gizmo though I choose Poser above some other applications exactly because of its dials.

Gimbal lock prevention is why some 3D apps, such as MMD, use 'quaternions'. Down-side is they are much harder to calculate...
