Subject: can't use loaded prop?

drawn ( ) posted Thu, 21 March 2024 at 10:10 PM · edited Sat, 04 January 2025 at 5:40 PM

it just says:

PPhRA1qU2OMA0fqeLE5YiAJ6luDUWdwRTALeMShU.pngif I say create materials, it just stares at me.

what causes this, but more important, how can I dress my l'homie in these jeans?

If you see that message, you are trying to apply that to the wrong thing. It's best to click no. Make sure you have the jeans selected and apply it again.

I select the jeans, then double click to put them on the figure and nothing. I check the contents of the scene and they are nowhere in there! as I've said b4 wtf?

According to the screencap, those 'jeans' are part of a material collection you must apply to 'Jeans for L'Homme'.  If you own the jeans, you must load those first before attempting to apply a material shader.  In this case, you are trying to apply the material collection to the L'Homme figure that does not have the matching material zones to accept the shaders.

Check the 'Dreamy Denim for L'Homme' webpage and look at the required products.

BTW, under what category does those 'jeans' appear in your Library?

I posted a short video here https://www.renderosity.com/gallery/items/3155762/adding-a-material-to-clothing on adding material to the jeans. There's no sound because I have trouble getting my surroundings to be quiet enough for that but it's a simple video so you should be able to follow it.

I think it's a simple enough tutorial anyone can follow.  I hope the OP has everything arranged appropriately in the Library.

That would help. I used the install in the library for that to give an idea of the file structure

great tutorial, Red. I'd really like to use those jeans, but they're not conforming but dynamic, apparently, and every time the character does something I'd have to run him through the Cloth room again!? or at least that's my current understanding. But how do the people who make movies with Poser handle that?

ok seeing your tutorial and how the jeans conformed to the figure, I tried again, and tried copy morphs from that made no visible difference, then conform to and some progress, then to Cloth room and ran a simulation, during Drape part, the jeans dropped off him entirely. this shows a point at which it seemed they might work... I checked, both l'homme and the jeans are in the same location, altho there are some curious ghostly figures that indicate perhaps some difference? anyone know?

if you can make any good sense of this and see a successful conclusion I will greatly appreciate it.

You'll notice in your screenshot that there is a lot of places that the jeans aren't fitting right

All that poke through is going to mess up your cloth simulation.

the reason is because L'homme used to load with L'homme size dial set to .5 and the pants were made to fit him at that scale.

You could set that scale to .5 but L'homme ends up being almost 7 feet tall. It's not bad for a scene with him by himself, but if you start adding others, he may tower over them. Your other option would be to scale the pants down to 91% and set the ytrans to -.025 and the ztrans to .001

as for people who do movies in poser, they either use conforming clothing or it's one long simulation. I don't do many animations and most that I do have limited movement of the characters. https://www.renderosity.com/gallery/items/3085244/ghost This one was done with Poser's cloth room. The ghost fit over a skeleton and the skeleton walked across the room. It was 150 frames for the animation. And then the skeleton was hidden for the render itself.

Why are you trying to copy morphs and conform dynamic pants to L'Homme?  The pants are props and should only be used in the Cloth Room for proper fitting.  At this point, copying morphs will not add any benefits to fitting the jeans to the figure.

Well I apply the pants and at first they look great. And then as soon as I move him they fall off or slide sideways and expose fact he has no underwear. I just want to get him dressed then save him as a group to my characters please tell me what steps?

Parent the pants to the hip. Make sure the prop is selected then in the object menu choose change parent and from the new popup choose Jeremy's hip. This won't cause the jeans to follow the bends of the figure but they will stay with him as you move him around. And you can save them with him. But you will still need to run a simulation for it to match a pose as shown in the three images.

You'll also notice that the jeans have moved in the hierarchy menu to being listed under the hip rather than as a separate prop.

well guys, I switched to l'homme jeans and as my guy moves they move with him, with some poke thru but I re-conform and they seem to work fine! now to recolor his hair, (blonde) and shirt. How do?

Look for in the material section for that hair and apply it like you did with the jeans. Just make sure you have the hair selected

Those are control Handles used to add and control facial expressions.  You can turn them off by setting the control value to 0.  The image below shows where to find that dial.

ATM, I suggest avoiding this feature until you develop more knowledge and insight on how to use it.

I agree with hborre, this is more advanced work. You should probably become more familiar with Poser first. You have plenty of premade expressions to use for scenes until you get more comfortable with Poser.
