Subject: TO character creators - EYE Reflections issues

McGrandpa ( ) posted Mon, 21 October 2024 at 7:10 PM · edited Thu, 21 November 2024 at 6:05 AM

I realize this is coming many years late, but it sure can't hurt to bring it up.   I am still seeing "baked in" reflections to the majority of character sets I buy.    And that is a bad thing, as I prefer to have Poser render eye reflections from the scene, like all other reflections.   That can't be done realistically with the hard baked reflections most of you put in the textures.  OK its great you add them cause a lot of folks don't know (or care?) that they can render them themselves.   Fine, just please add textures that don't have reflections already.    I mean, you started out with textures with no reflection, right?

I'll say it straight:   Most of the time, I cannot use the authors eye textures at all.    I use someone elses or make them from scratch.

Thank you for your understanding!

Seconded--not much you can do with older character sets, alas, but it is super annoying that the non-baked sets are not provided.

hborre ( ) posted Mon, 21 October 2024 at 8:53 PM

Your best bet is to find a texture set that provides the iris colors and eye details that satisfy you and use that as a replacement.  As Rhia posted, there isn't much available for older characters, but they exist.

Rhia474 ( ) posted Mon, 21 October 2024 at 8:57 PM

I have some that I use regularly, Sabby had a few Eye kits that had no reflections and reflection-baked-in mixed. Outside of that, I just trawl my Textures folder for Iris maps with no reflections in the colors I want and use Superfly compatible eye materials otherwise.

McGrandpa ( ) posted Mon, 21 October 2024 at 11:57 PM

Well, as it might be the most useful path, let's swap info on character sets, their Figure models, and what eye textures it uses.   So I got a bunch of V4 chrs from Sabby, heck I have a few hundred older sets for the Gen4's, and am accumulating a goodly number of Genesis2 chrs also.   Genesis 2 is working great in PP 2014 so I use that most of the time.  I also have P 11 Pro and P 12.  but I kinda despise the author of disasters happening to those two.   They removed the Complex Settings tab I used ALL the time and stuck an unusable PoS in its place.  Plus they force us to be online just to use the software.  THAT is despicable.

Anyway, I am content with PP 2014.   The dev crew won't be allowed to include the 'Genesis' module for P 13, or any Python  3 version.

I am rambling, sorry.   Back to Eye Textures!   The worst bit is when the reflection is baked into the Iris texture.  No getting rid of it then.   Have to replace it.

Anyone interested in making a list of these as we come up with em?

Ones i have with no reflections in the IRIS.   I include those with very tiny reflection spots.  Removable.  Another thing is some of the very best looking eyes are splattered with reflection on the iris and other parts too.  Makes me wanna cry.

Eloiny V4

Alice Fay V4

P3D - 13 chrs:  Aisha, Alicia, Aretha, Birgit, Jennifer, Linn, Meilan, Nishi, Roelle, Ruby, Sophia, Tess = NO Reflect on Iris!   Megan has 3 eye colors, all have reflection.

Pixeluna - Solaine V4 none, Lavinia V4 some do, some don't, but COOL textures worth a look.  Luna, 1 does not, 4 do have.

RPD - SAKY, 10 sets, no reflect

SABBY - Alexis, Amber, Ashleen, Bridgit, Coryn (19 eyes!), Cynthia, Diamond, Elodie, Irina, JADYN! (27 Eyes!), Jules, Kezia, Lalia, Nola, Olivia, Sisters (two sets of 7 eyes each), Wendy (8 sets of the brightest eyes yet).  Sabby is a Great one to get some interesting irises from!  And ALL Sabby eyes, no reflect!

Whew, that is only half what I have of Sabbys V4 characters.  All of Sabbys eyes are reflection free so far!  But I will post this, and resume tomorrow sometime.

You might like working with newer figures like Dawn 2. Cath is working on a character for Dawn 2 that has PBR shaders, including for the eyes.

Well that was stupid, huh?   OK so I got a LOT of notes to make, cause there are around 810 V4 character sets installed.   So far.    Then there are 3 years of accumulated  downloads bought but NOT installed yet.   Yes I have definitely been sick.   One thing I see is that some authors do not bake reflections into the textures.   Sabby, you are a DREAM!  Thank you!   SO much more to look at!   Isn't this fun!  :D

Will hop back on it after my Physical Therapy session this morning!

I did buy all the Dawn2 stuff when it was released/announced by HiveWire.   BUT, I likely won't be using it much for some time yet.   The problem is POSER.  Not Dawn2.

Sorry, can't help further. Not using Genesis in  Poser and switched over to Superfly completely (PPro2014 is still Firefly only). I'm very happy wuth the updated Materials room and how it works.

Feel free to check my store - zero baked in reflections there, wink wink nudge nudge. 😇

When it comes to Vic4's irises, I'm often using those of Jamminwolf's Lucy Zep, as they don't have that weird shadowing on the upper part, as it was often the case at the time.

I'm late to the thread. As ChromeStar pointed out my free eye shaders/texture will work if you are rendering in SuperFly.

I haven't got into SuperFly yet.   Spent a WHILE dealing mostly with my health stuff.  Getting back UP now, I am using Poser more, again, and have a bit more hardware to install (another 7 USB 3.4 ports and another 6 SATA3 ports and another half dozen 2 TB and 4 TB SSD's!) THEN I got a few terabytes worth of backlogged downloaded content to install. WHEW!

I just got your eye sets for P12, will have a good look at them soon.   I MIGHT put together a folder of nothing but salvaged eye textures.  Works the same as any other texture, right?

yes, my textures work like other textures. I do use some tricks on V4 to soften the transitions pupil-iris-sclera and I use bump maps for the iris. take a look at how they are set up in the mat room. Maybe I'll have a look at doing something for FF.
