Subject: Comic Life 3 Problem. Do you have this problem, too?

VedaDalsette ( ) posted Sat, 14 December 2024 at 5:12 PM · edited Wed, 25 December 2024 at 6:08 PM

Just wondered if anyone else has this problem with Comic Life 3. I updated my Win 11 PC to 24H2 and since then I can't use Comic Life 3. When I open it, I get the screen but it hangs in buffer hell.

I've tried repairing and reinstalling CL3 and I've updated Windows (I do it daily) and tried a DISM restorehealth command at the command prompt, but nothing changes. I even submitted a ticket at plasq, but I'm guessing it's this stupid Windows update. I'm trying to work up the courage to roll back to the previous version, but I'm not sure what I might lose or have to reinstall if I do.

Anyway, I just wondered if anyone else is having the same problem.

Is this on a Laptop or do you have a Live Windows Cam attached to your PC? If so the drivers for either device might be corrupt and need to be reinstalled which might be causing the conflicting issue with your ComicLife-3 if you have either of these device try uninstalling the device drivers from the PC might need to look up how to uninstall device drivers on Windows 11 then rebooting letting fresh drivers be re-install during a reboot and that might resolve the issue

Content Advisory! This message contains profanity

Lobo3433,  thanks for responding. I don't have a camera on my monitor and don't use a camera (my picture perfect days are over, hehe). Also, I don't use a laptop; it's a big-ass tower (or whatever you call it).

As far as updating drivers, I use Norton's Driver Updater every day. I've learned drivers are a big deal keep updated, so I do. Norton updates drivers I wouldn't think to look at. And, because Norton is a day late with graphic drivers, I go directly to Nvidia every day to check for graphic driver updates (I just updated the Studio driver on 12/12). Now that I think of it, could it be Nvidia and not Windows that's affecting CL3? Or neither? I just want to know if anyone else has this problem. I've contacted plasq.com and they responded to ask if I can do anything with the screen. I can't. It's like there's a force field protecting it. It stays in buffer hell.

Another thing, is I now get a million gazillion autopilot.dll errors and some of my Norton processes (Software Updater, File Cleanup, Ultimate Utilities) take longer than usual. If I hadn't taken that week break from using CL3 on my latest comics project, I'd have a better idea of when the problem first occurred.

Thanks for your help.

I only asked because usually when I see errors like "2024-12-14 18:04:15.843 ComicLife3[2228:3d28]  WARN: +[LiveWin32Video cameraList] line: 46 | Unable to enumerate Video Input Devices"  I tend to check driver corruption issues which is the first thing I tend to look at I know there were numerous issues with the last most recent Windows update release double check your windows update and make sure you do not see any update error messages like an updated failed to install and if so try reinstalling the update is all I can further suggest

Well, I started the reinstall at 5:30 Eastern and it's almost 8:30 Eastern now and the install is at 97%. But it's been at 97% for the last 1.5 or 2 hours. I have no clue if the reinstall will ever finish. It's always something.

Lobo3433, the reinstall worked!!!!!! It took 4.5 hours but it worked!!!!! I can't believe it actually worked. I can use CL3 again. I don't know what the reinstall did that the repair activity didn't, but thanks for suggesting I do the reinstall. Much appreciated!!!! Hugs and kisses and all that stuff. :)

I am so glad it worked must have been it failed the first time and did not give you the right error message or the reinstalled fixed the corrupt driver issue. I know you have your Norton's driver update but they can and are usually at least anywhere from 24 hours to a week behind Microsoft one thing I do when things start to act up is run in an elevated command prompt is sfc /scannow which will do a system scan for corrupt files the link below will explain how to do it you might want to save the page for future reference

Use the System File Checker tool to repair missing or corrupted system files

Thanks for the link, but guess what. I had already tried DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth and I think I tried sfc /scannow. I can't remember now; I was searching for any fix. But it was the reinstall that worked. I had no idea it would take so long, and I worried I was breaking my machine when it was stuck at 97%, but it all worked out.

But I'm saving that link for any future issues!

Just glad you got it fixed regretfully sometimes when a reinstall like that happens it can be very frustrating when it seems to hang there at like 97% at least you kept patient and it all worked out that is the important part
