Subject: How do I block a user?

kalebdaark ( ) posted Wed, 30 August 2023 at 7:26 AM · edited Thu, 02 January 2025 at 8:53 PM

There's a "Block User" function under sitemail.   I curently don't have anyone blocked but how do I use it to block a new user?

I've seen comments before about following and unfollowing an artist.   I already know how to do that and that's NOT what I'm interested in.   I'm only interested in in how to block emails from another user.

Please provide instructions on how to use this feature in sitemail.

When a member sends you a sitemail a yellow Block User button will appear. If you need further assistance please go to support.renderosity.com.

Thank you for reaching out!

It applies only if they send you sitemail? Or comment on here on forums? If I may suggest, it might be good idea to add block feature on next to follow button? Am saying that it would be one handy feature with spammers and bots and such that have sneaked into Renderosity lately. Even if staff does work probably overtime with removing them asap.

Recently I found myself being followed by someone I didn't know that turned out to be a spambot and was hunting everywhere for how to block & remove them. I reported and it got dealt with, I assume, by a mod. But it would save everybody time if there were a way to quickly block such "users" without the need to have them send you a sitemail or whatever -- which spammers & bots don't usually do -- before you can even see the Block User button, wherever it's hiding these days.

While it might seem like being able to block the spammers is good, and I agree, reporting still helps us find them so they can be banned so others don't have to deal with them too.

There is a block button also in the galleries. Neither blocks comments.

What actually happens if I ignore someone on the forums here? I thought it just meant I can't see their posts, as happens on Daz site. I've heard some say it actually blocks the person here in the forum. I ignored someone and pretty sure they returned the favor, as now, I can't un-ignore them. Just wondering how this works.

I have experienced someone who has blocked their comments from me completely for some strange reason.  I am curious about what they have to say, but I cannot bother determining why I have been blocked.

hborre, I think your experience supports the idea that the ignore button has become a block button.

While it might seem like being able to block the spammers is good, and I agree, reporting still helps us find them so they can be banned so others don't have to deal with them too.

I do get where this comes from and there has been lot of spammers joining in here. Spammers and bots are one thing that requires block and yeeting out. I am on one of such bit too huge platform where admin and mod staff are outnumbered against the amount of spammers, bots, artthieves etc so for them it was easier to adjust guidelines that "block and report and we deal them when we have time." Having option to block them would act like quick first aid, like they cannot infect further on person's gallery with spam and questionable links leading to definetelly malicious places and therefore potential visitors would not be effected by them. -This kind of a would also require this level of knolledge about net life. As soon as you see one, it's gonna be block and report. ( As well as take screenshot as evidence and store it for later. ) Also, people to who spammers and bots are new thing, do not blame yourself. They are getting sneakier and sneakier as tech and AI evolves. -Also sad bitter pill is that yea, they are taking advantage from technology. D:

And sometimes people just want to block someone. Either it be about something that their said on forum or who knows might as well be image material that they post that ain't for someone's eyes for whatever reason. Like you just do not like someone by default. It can happen and it is OK. In this manner blocking kind of a works like a way not to see that person ever again and  sometimes it just is best for everyone. Or if things between two people have ever escaled really sour...  having option of blocking can also come just handy. ( I so wish that block person option would exist in real life too because I have a list.... lmao ) This is also entirely generaly speaking and won't target anyone specificly. You won't know me but I think I would climb on a soapbox and give and earful to someone's inbox if that was the case. ( that there tries to be humor ) Honestly, having that option to block anyone would be nerve saving option and in it shouldn't be something to pester mods and admins with.

Also, people who are blocked.. I dunno really, it might feel bad especially if not knowing why someone has blocked you or ignored you. Then again, would you really want to know? In this case I would say that ignorance is bliss and much easier to carry on daily life without letting it to bother you. I know by fact that I managed to piss off one artist at one artist communnity by being brutally honest about their design in Prey and they were not having it. I would have wanted equally honest answer back though. Someone else who I pestered about newest Crow was actually very human and kind with their reply.

I dunno do you want to know what kind of people I have blocked before? Ones who have been spammers, scammers, art thieves ( real deals ) and some people who I felt much better without with. Kinda same with FB; thanks for recommending me people that I do know well enough already irl that I don't want nothing to do with them. x'D If your are guessing have I blocked most of my hometown, yea. your guess would be correct. Nobody needs that amount of negativity into their life. At one other community I saw one person blowing up their fuses on forum into someone's artwork and I went and blocked that person because of that very essential need to protect own piece of mind
