Subject: Why is Curious Labs not listed as a Renderosity site sponsor?

Maybe this has already been asked, but I just noticed it this past week.

It wasn't anything bad really. They just decided they were not getting enough hits from here to justify the cost of sponsorship. They are keeping an eye on costs like everyone else these days. But we are still just as dedicated to working with them as ever. ScottA

going by that reasoning, i would have thought DAZ would get a lot of hits from this site and hance be a sponsor... but then the store could be a competition?

I think both of those companies are getting enough direct or indirect "hits" from this sight to both be sponsers. Curious Labs would do well enough on cost cutting if they didn't go off on tangents and instead get their new products lined up and out the door... ie: a poser 5 version that has some real goodies in it instead of dongle stuff. They also need a few more methods in the python scripting support.

We've pulled back most of our advertising in all media in an effort to reduce our costs to ensure our long term viability. The events on September 11th have ground most consumer level software vendors revenue down to the bone, ours included. It's fiscally responsible for us to readjust our spending when our income changes. It shouldn't be construed that this move has any connection to our respect for this community. We know that the community here is vital to us, but to a degree, buying sponsorship is preaching to the choir. We are here daily, involved with our contirbutions in various threads, maintaining an active presence. Frankly, I don't see Corel as involved at personal level here as a number of from Curious are. As for new products, well of course the next release of Poser is important, it's our flagship, but we need to have other ways to keep the interest up. Note that we just released the free Cinema 4D plug-in to enable hosting Poser scenes. That is an incremental product, true, but it is an indication that we are busy, developing the Poser brand itself, and creating innovative ways to sell the brand to new users, in new communities. We also will be making an announcement about a brand new product next week. We have great hopes for this new offering, as it is both a great opportunity, it ties into what we do best- 3D characters- and it will help us to branch out so that we don't have all our proverbial eggs in one basket.
