Subject: Land Dragon in Freestuff?

TygerCub ( ) posted Sun, 04 November 2001 at 7:40 AM · edited Thu, 09 January 2025 at 3:21 PM

I tried to download the Land Dragon from freestuff a couple of times and keep getting an error message saying the file is corrupt and the download is aborted. Has anyone else run into this?

c1rcle ( ) posted Sun, 04 November 2001 at 7:51 AM

I got the same error message but I managed to download on my 3rd attempt, my advice keep trying :-)

Irish ( ) posted Sun, 04 November 2001 at 8:51 AM

I have downloaded it and installed it but keep getting an error message about incorrect coding on both the .obj and .cr2 files which says 'bad CRC 08461642 (should be 0d1950ac)' and on the obj file I get 'bad CRC Odde455b (should be ccc4eddO) Anyone else having this problem? :) Irene

dboura ( ) posted Sun, 04 November 2001 at 10:53 AM

Irene do you have the upgrade to 4.03 or pro pack? I currently have poser 4.03 w/o pro pack and it worked fine

I downloaded it with no problems, but I haven't tried to install and open it yet. Looks cool from the thumb, and the zip tested ok.

Here is the message from the WinZip log: Extracting to "C:Program FilesMetaCreationsPoser 4RuntimeGeometriesMythologicals" Use Path: yes Overlay Files: no Extracting LandDragon.rsr bad CRC 48e33860 (should be 91433322) Warning: the size of the extracted file (3299178) does not match the uncompressed size (3299148) recorded in the zip file Extracting LandDragon.obj bad CRC 08461642 (should be 0d1950ac) Warning: the size of the extracted file (6495017) does not match the uncompressed size (6495022) recorded in the zip file Looks like the problem occured when it was zipped so perhaps rezipping it would fix it. I've tried both draging and dropping from WinZip and using the Extract function, neither way works for me and I can't get the files from the .zip. :(

Valandar ( ) posted Sun, 04 November 2001 at 1:51 PM

Hrms... so it's a problem with Winzip? I used Winzip 8.0, is it possible that you have an earlier version? Most people seem to have no problems with it...

Yeah, I got bad crc errors also. Could be, but I haven't seen many version specific errors on that. I'll try it with WinRar and see.

I have 8. I also have WinRAR and Stuffit. The log for WinRAR: 1 LandDragon.zip: CRC failed in LandDragontex.jpg. The file is corrupt 2 LandDragon.zip: CRC failed in LandDragon.rsr. The file is corrupt 3 LandDragon.zip: CRC failed in LandDragon.obj. The file is corrupt 4 LandDragon.zip: CRC failed in Land_Dragon.rsr. The file is corrupt 5 LandDragon.zip: CRC failed in Land_Dragon.cr2. The file is corrupt Stuffit wouldn't open it either saying that the file was either corrupted or encrypted. I'm going to try redownloading it. I do want to say a hearty THANK YOU for sharing your Land Dragon. :)

Likewise... bummer. Was looking forward to using that in a bryce scene... Oh well, I still appreciate the file. It looks like fantastic work from the images. Thanks for making it and making it available anyway.

Ok, they say insanity is to do the same thing over and over while expecting differant results... I've tried to redownload 3 times with no luck. :( I've no idea why some people are able to extract the files but all my programs for extracting compressed files say there is a problem with the package, perhaps not all the files got compressed into the zip completely... or there is a troll in the zip who just doesn't want some of us to have a dragon. g walks off pouting sniffle it's such a cool looking dragon too....

Bladesmith ( ) posted Sun, 04 November 2001 at 6:03 PM

I had the exact problem Wolfrose had....

Dreamspinner ( ) posted Sun, 04 November 2001 at 10:57 PM

Same problem here using Aladdin Expander. It said the obj was corrupt and only opened obj and texture files. Please rezip this? Liz Pope Dreamspinner Inc.

Valandar ( ) posted Mon, 05 November 2001 at 8:48 AM

Alright, I'll re-zip it, and re-upload it... gimme a bit...

Same link, same site... new ZIP file. It's uploaded, and should work for those of you that it didn't work before. Not only is it a brand new zip, it's also at a lower compression rate.

Yup. So far so good. tested out ok, and unzipped to the desktop on my internet system. No worries.

I have a feeling it could have been caused by a noisy connection cause I got the original zip on my 3rd attempt and had nothing wrong with it, and that's with a 56k modem, yes I'm still in the dark ages when dragons were real dragons and modems were damn slow :)

Wolfrose ( ) posted Mon, 05 November 2001 at 1:30 PM

Thank You! They unzipped just fine this time. :)

Valandar ( ) posted Mon, 05 November 2001 at 3:24 PM

Whew, I was actually worried about this. I didn't want anyone to be disappointed with him, because I want everyone to enjoy the beastie. Oh, I've had at least two different offers to remap the Land Dragon, so in a few days I may be putting the UV's for the remapped version up, or heck, they might. They have my permission.

Thanks alot for rezipping it! I am going to go and download it again. Also a BIG thankyou for making your dragon available as a freebie! :) Irene
