Subject: Help with mapping new model-- poser export, UVmapper

Well, I'm stuck again. :P I've been working on a new hair model for the P4 guy in Poser itself. I've got the model pretty much how I think I want it but I'm having a bit of trouble with the mapping. The model is divided into materials-- but not groups, or at least, I can't select by group in UVmapper (there aren't any). So when I go to apply a texture map, it only applies to the material selected, and of course I can't load the same texture onto more than one material. Do I have to make separate texture maps for all the materials? That's quite a pain; I would really like them all to be on the same map, so what must I do? (Oh-- I tried this: imported the model; used the grouping tool to make new groups; included the right materials in each group; exported the model. It's exactly the same.) Can anyone help?

make sure you check the box labeled "include existing groups in polygon groups" when you export from poser. Hope this helps

It is possible to apply the same texture to different materials. You do not have to load it in again (you will get an error message), simply call it up from the drop down list in the texture section. There is also the option to apply the texture to the entire figure.

heyas; you're making hair? okay, and you saved it to the hair library? that means poser embedded the geometry into the hr2 file; you know that, right? it's not a bad thing, but you need to know that. okay, so you exported from poser, and you have materials and no groups. that shouldnt be a problem for a hair file, they don't really need groups, as far as i can tell. you can select each material and make a different uvmap for them, or uvmap them all at once, and then use the 'tile by material' deal. just put all the bits on one template; you don't need a separate one for each. you lost me on why you can't put the same texture on all the bits. usually in poser, you just check 'apply texture to whole figure' and apply the hair texture to the dumb preview texture that always sticks itself up on the top of the list, but which nobody ever uses... and it applies to all the materials of your hair. but okay, if you don't have any groups in your hair, maybe this won't work. all you need to do, though, is in uvmapper, select all (ctrl-a), and assign everything to a group. 'hair' is a good group. hmmm.... you dont mean the message 'there is already a texture loaded with that name' do you? just select it from the drop down list instead of loading it, then. (but turning on the apply to everything check box is faster.)

Have you tried seperating the objects into groups in UVmapper and assigning material to the groups in UVmapper?...if so than it is likely like bloodsong said...

Thanks! I made it work by checking the 'apply to all' box... I don't know why I didn't think of that. I shall try the 'include existing groups in polygon groups' for future test renders. Thanks for your help!
