Folks, please forgive me for burbling, but i've just gotten my first product posted to the marketplace. i'm so excited! It's the RealGrrls set of face poses that i was talking about last week.

There is a little gallery of renders on my web site, for your perusal, too!

This pic of Lexi by my beta tester & inciter to e-commerce--thank you!!!

They are gorgeous, as soon as I get my next paycheck, this is a must purchase---must go check out your gallery. :)

After seeing this thread and visiting your web site, I instantly went to check out your store. So I looked in the directory of the Renderosity Marketplace (the list of names on the side of the screen) and...there's no mention of "nfredman" in it anywhere. What's up with that? By the way, I did click on your name in your posting, went to your info page and linked to your store that way. Nice work! I added your faces to my cart (i.e. my "wish list" of things to buy) and hope to make a purchase soon.

Hmmmm.. the Tusi face kinda reminds me of Lexa Doig, Andromeda's android (sp?) (and computer personality). Nice work!! jjstemp, The store might be backlogged. There are a lot of items with today's date on them.

BWAHAHAHAhhhhaaaa... actually, Lexi is based on Lexa Doig! Very close! Silver star.

Ok, I just bought these.... when is the next set coming out :) LOL (Someone had to ask) Great work, these are sooooo handy when one needs a great looking face but dosen't have the time to create their own (yes this coming from the morph guy) 2 thumbs up from Trav! -Trav

Trav, i'm... amazed and pleased that you approve! Wonderful! Yes, they are intended as time savers and jumping off points. Add expression & go. Thank you for the good words, everyone. i thought i would work on some eyebrow-less textures & eyes next. i definitely have my sights on Michael 2 and the Mil kiddies. And more Victorias! --Nan

Here's a close up (with a RealGrrl face, natch) of an eye texture. What i want to know is: Do you like the glints built into the texture? Or are they just annoying? Question 1a: If you like the glints, are these too soft/matte? Question 2: Do you actually use weird colored eyes--violet, red, bright aqua, monster eyes--in your renders?? --Nan with that female consensus thing going

I think a combination of regular and fantasy eyes are great (of course that could be because I'm unbiased and my Windows to the Soul package contains both) Some people like the fantasy eyes for fairies, vampires, demons and such so I think they are an added plus to a package. Are all of those glints on the texture map or are some of them light reflections? If those are all glints, I'd say personally that they are a bit too bright/large. This image is one of the natural eyes from WTTS package, the lower glints are part of the texture (there are small upper ones as well). As you see the lighting gives pretty good glints on it's own. But I personally like to add a few subtle ones.

I used to add "hotspots" on my iris textures... but then I started to experiment more with lighting, and I found that my painted on highlights were in the wrong places, and there were natural ones occuring due to the material settings and the lighting... and it looked wrong... so I stopped using them... this being true for the newer figures... Vicky/Michael/Natalia, and I assume for Dina as well... they have a cornea that you can adjust the highlight color and amount on, which will produce highlights based on the lighting... now for the older P4 standard figures, I find it's necesary to add highlights, since their eyes just don't produce them on their own... I can't be part of the female consensus... not being female and all... but that's just my two cents. :)

nfredman ( ) posted Wed, 07 November 2001 at 6:26 PM

Thank you all for your thoughtful replies. i put 2 hotspots on the eyetextures, then after i saw the render, realized they were mostly unnecessary. i think i'll eschew them in the future, except, as Lady Silvermage suggested, only some very subtle ones. And, Doh! How could i forget all the fairies? and the vamps? So we're in for some nice red, yellow, and purple eyes, too. :^)
