I recently enrolled in New York Institute Of Photography. And my 1st assignment was to take shots that foucused in on my subject and made them stand out. I have chosen this one because I feel it has accomplished those effects. But I wanted to hear other's opinions before I licked any stamps and mailed it off to the school. Also I am trying to think of an appropriate title for this picture. So I will be very thankful for any helpful comments. -Thanks*

Was this shot on digital, or film, and also, what kind of camera do ya use? Either, what we have here folks is what I like to call, a camera hog for a model. Someone who just loves to pose. Incidently, that's a good thing! I've never really gone into working with flashes, mainly cause I'd wanna use one that is way too expensive and that my school doesnt have ( a timed flash), so I cant give much advice on the flash. As for the washing out, it is a little, but that can easily be remedied. Damn she's adorable! How'd ya get into the NY Photo school? What made you wanna go there exactly, I'm interested in hearing about why you chose this particular school. I've never heard of it, so fill us in. RyrY

Well, let me start by saying thank you for commenting. Next, I'll explain my equipment. I use (and LOVE) a Minolta XTSI plus. The flash is a common built in flash. I was probably just to close to her and I wasn't thinking of the flash range in peticular and it did "white out" sections. But the brightness to my subject and the darkness of the background sorta added to my composition. I was standing in a chair over her... and you were exactly right about her hogging and posing perfectly anytime she sees a camera. Thank you for saying she is beautiful. She is my boyfriend lil sister and is 3 years old. NYI has a website ... HTTP://WWW.NEWYORKINSTITUTEOFPHOTOGRAPHY.COM So far I like it alot. I work at an One Hour Photo and my manager has a degree from there and shoots portraits and wedding pics and is a real Pro. So that's why I chose it. And last, once more THANKS, April Dawn

Look into getting a new flash system possibly. I'm sure Alpha has a few suggestions on what would be good. I've never been a fan of built in flash systems, and getting one I'd want is way out of my person price range. However, a nicely timed flash would rawk... but I digress...

Hmmm, actually, I'm diggin that colorburned look. I always do, people say that flash was too hot or too close, but I dig that raw contrast. This little miss looks only sweet, but normally subjects in these kind of flash pics looks scared and vulnerable. And yes, pose, composition and lil' model are really nice. .n
